My NAS setup currently.

8 8TB drives (the NAS is like 6 years old) in RaidZ2.

Edit: The scribbled spot is a SSD that had the barcodes visible. The SSD is a 1TB drive for VM installs and other stuff that isn’t deep storage.

Edit2: The SSD isn’t anchored because it has no moving parts and it was placed like that for testing… 4 months ago… It’s just temporary I swear!

Edit3: For those curious the case is a Darkrock Classic Storage Master

    • How do you still have open SATA ports on your motherboard?
    • Where are all those neatly tied SATA cables going? I think I can peek them behind and above the CPU?
    • What is the card between the GPU and the SSD? Is it some RAID controller?

Is there any point in censoring a barcode on an SSD? Privacy reasons?

The warranty code and serial numbers are on the bottom, so I figured better safe than sorry

Seconded on asking what case this is.

Also, can I ask you why you have the CPU fan pulling air off the GPU and creating turbulence in this otherwise beautiful NAS? I know the cooling is probably perfectly adequate even with that, but ahhhhhh lol.

The case is a Darkrock Classic Storage Master

The CPU cooler is in that orientation because it’s the only way it’d mount on the board. The good news is that the GPU is a blower style GPU so the CPU isn’t really affected.

Now that you point it out I’m surprised the cooler even goes that way, most of the time they’re pretty locked into the horizontal direction.

I’ve had something similar due to the limitations of a narrow ILM vs square ILM board, but I think my solution was to rig/butcher it until it pointed the cooler correctly, that or I bought a mounting adapter or something. Either way, I remember that I viscerally hated it and wouldn’t let it sit like that despite being 45w CPUs, and this post reminded me of it haha.

I literally set them to 100% speed and forget about them they’re so quiet, and they move hella air.

The Dockrock fans that are in the front of the case stock are also quiet AF.

      Edit: Spleling

Not OP but I use Noctuas in both my server cases, and they’re fantastic. Super quiet and efficient.

Mine didn’t start like this, mine initially had only 3 drives and was run in RAIDZ1.

It was a couple years before I got to 8.

NGL though I kinda wish I lived with 3 for longer and went with bigger drives when I upgraded, but I’m happy with my ~42TB of space and 2 redundant disks.
