This always seemed like such a bad idea to me. How awkward would a messy breakup be?

I once had somebody start flirting with me at a family reunion. We were not blood related. But like. No way in hell I’m ever telling that “how we met” story.

A kid once asked my parents for permission to court my sister at an event for our mutual cousin. I hope that’s still the weirdest way she’s been asked out

but imagine the joke potential of a slow burning story that ends with “and it was a family reunion”

i dont think its as much about harm in individual situation as it is about vague social stigma. incest is icky, end of thought.

It’s not like they can conceive.

that depends on the individual case. same as with straight couples.

so imo people should judge each situation individually

Mine too. Incest is mostly built on abusive power structures, not the fairytales you picture…

Isn’t the problem then the abusive power structure, whether it’s built on family/generation/age dynamics or something else, and that saying the problem is “incest” is de-emphasizing the more critical component (that’s already avoided too often)? Not to say that incest is a good thing or even harmless, but to be strategic in framing discussions that may affect how people look at things. Missed the thread header and this might not be the most relevant place to reply, but wanted to get the thought out.

          oh, sorry for the misunderstanding.

i didnt mean that i think it’s icky but that i think most people will just think its icky and end it there.
