Why do smokers of all kinds have to smoke right in front of the door of every fucking building?
I remember when they did it INSIDE buildings. And cars. Schools, hospitals… if you lived through the 80’s you just have the pervasive smell of tobacco registered as a prime core memory.
I use to live in Vegas as a child occasionally. We’d sometimes go to the casinos for shows and have to cross The Floor
I can still feel it on my skin decades and decades later
I remember looking for the grocery carts with built in ashtray.
Because they’re selfish inconsiderate pricks who can’t fathom how disgusting they truly are.
Probably because they’re addicted, enjoy the high, and don’t have the means or strength of character to quit.
Or they have undiagnosed ADHD and haven’t associated the effect of nicotine with their seminormality mask they can only maintain with legal stimulants.

Any place where you don’t force your smoke upon people who have no choice about being there. It’s not that hard: Don’t make your smoking anybody else’s problem.
Or, if this is more your style of communicating: Up your ass.
In Canada, a minimum of 6’ away from the door unless you want a fine.
It’s only 6’ in Canada? It’s 50’ in the US.
Of course nobody actually enforces it, so it’s effectively nothing, but still…
It’s 25’ in Virginia and that’s for hospitals and schools, maybe there’s a distance a business could enforce but honestly probably literally outside the doorframe is all they can do most places.
I would love to see someone get fined for that. I wonder if anyone ever has.
In the trash where you belong
Exhibit number #62049 of lemmings having the most insane fucking takes to ever grace the information superdumpster
Every smoker I’ve met gets very defensive about “why can’t I breathe my toxic fumes on everyone else?? What’s the big deal?? And then they get so mad when I litter like get over yourself”
Smoking in public is indefensible. There are smoking cessation programs.

I think you’re confused - seems like you think that a public place is your private space. Public space is a place where people need to consider OTHER people. You just proved OPs point.
[Person shitting in a public pool]
“Its called a public pool for a reason. I have a right to this water as much as you don’t like it.”
You probably watch YouTube with the sound on and no headphones in public, too.
God I hate those people.
What the fuck is your logic? “I get a right to air, so I will pollute it for you.”
As far from me as you would like to be when I drop a huge smelly fart.
It felt like that for me in a lot of Europe, but not America.
I once insinuated that I hated the smell of vapes and people downvoted me, saying “noooo but blueberry muffin flavour actually smells so goooood”
Yeah okay buddy, I think you’re one of the ones I’d find wandering the streets vaping in front of everyone
Edit: to the people currently downvoting me, you guys do know vaping can also give you cancer and increases your risk of respiratory disease, right? And by vaping in front of other people you’re forcing that risk on to them, right? Grow a little empathy
This is true, but it’s so much better than walking through cig smoke, or smelling that shit in someone’s car, or the nightmare of walking into someone’s house that has tar all over the walls and furniture because they smoke in the house.
I’ll take mass replacement of cigs with vape any day.
It’s better poison, but it’s still poison -A former vaper…vapist?
I would go with vaper. That other one sounds too much like that guy Brock Turner…
There are people that are addicted to a drug the government will not regulate because they are taxing the shit out of the addicted. Grow a little empathy.
Especially for the vapers because they allready diminish the harm to them and others. The exoust fumes of the car beside you are many more times dangerous than the passive vape you could inhale.
I’m specifically calling out people who downvoted me for saying I don’t like the smell of vapes
I’m honestly with you, I think cigarette and vape sales should be criminalised, smokers are being taken advantage of both by the government and the smoko sellers
Let’s give the government more control of our bodies. Great idea!
Me, trying to figure out how trying to stop people taking a highly addictive drug that meets none of our needs is control over our body:
Prohibition is a terrible idea.
ah yes let’s do a prohibition 2.0 because why not. especially when the fascists are in power
This might be hard to believe, but I’m one of the dozens of people who don’t live in the US
regardless of where you’re from, criminalizing drug use leads to people dying. it’s been a fucking disaster in any country it’s been implemented
Where did I ever say I wanted to criminalise drug use?
where are people gonna buy cigs if you ban them? the black market. who’s gonna go to prison over it? marginalized people. this is already reality in authoritarian countries
i really don’t care what you put in your body of your own volition, whether legal or not. go for it, i’m not in a place to look down on you. but just don’t make me breathe in your vape cloud. I smoke and I will only smoke in private or amongst people who smoke with me, or who have given me an explicit thumbs up to smoke near them. to do otherwise would be douchy.
I was with you until you tried to lecture people on what’s bad for them or not. Yes people know. Lots of things are bad for you, they are adults.
Did you know science has proven that being on social media is bad for you?
There is no direct evidence vaping causes cancer.
The main components of vape juice are polyene glycol and vegetable glycerin. Both of which are completely benign and added into many every day products. And before vaping nicotine was a thing, it has been used as a safe drug delivery method for decades.
To say there’s no direct evidence is disingenuous. Yes, there are no peer reviewed articles that directly correlate vaping and cancer chance, but guess what there also isn’t? Studies that say they’re safe
The reason for this is simple: there’s about a 14 year delay between any smoking changes and lung cancer presenting itself. Extrapolate that to three trials, and you’re looking at minimum 50 years before it can hit shelves
What is known about vapes is that they contain many of the same carcinogens found in cigarettes, which should be a red flag to most people
What is known about vapes is that they contain many of the same carcinogens found in cigarettes, which should be a red flag to most people
Not true at all. Vapes don’t contain any known carcinogens.
According to cancer.org.au
For example, propylene glycol and glycerine found in e-cigarettes when overheated can produce dangerous levels of the carcinogens formaldehyde and acetaldehyde.
And it was found the study ran the batteries in an unsafe manner, as in no one would use their vape like that because they had to go around the safeties.
This is a blanket statement that doesn’t really mean anything
-
It is highly unlikely one study would do this (purposefully put their patients in danger)
-
It is even more unlikely that this study would continue without being retracted
-
It is unfathomably unlikely that all other studies on the matter would do the same thing and agree on the results
I guess the biggest problem here is that I never mentioned a specific study, and neither did you.
If you want a good report on the matter, check out: National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; Health and Medicine Division; Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice; Committee on the Review of the Health Effects of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems; Eaton DL, Kwan LY, Stratton K, editors. Public Health Consequences of E-Cigarettes. Washington (DC): National Academies Press (US); 2018 Jan 23. 5, Toxicology of E-Cigarette Constituents. Available from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK507184/
An interesting exert from it is the following:
Compounds not listed on labels also have been identified in e-liquids. Several hazardous compounds have been found in liquids and in the heated aerosol produced by e-cigarettes, including formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acrolein, which are known carcinogenic toxicants.
Edit: ah yes, the classic “I can’t think of any way to rebuke what they said so I’m just going to downvote them because I can’t add anything meaningful to the discussion, but I’m still convinced I’m right”
-
A lot of them also vape in the building when they think they won’t get caught
Who cares, it doesn’t even smell like anything, let alone in the ballpark of cigs
I am more annoyed by stinky heavy perfumes. Let’s tell people who enter buildings smelling like whole periodic table to think about their life.
I am routinely pinching my nose with my fingers near them and staring but they rarely get the memo.
Nothing worse when someone enters on 0 floor and you smell C16H14O2 on the tenth
Honestly, I was at an indoor event with live music just this past weekend. They had a fog machine (a real one, that’s not a metaphor), and I saw at least one person get up on stage during one of the performances, and in the middle of the performances, they whipped out their vape and took a big rip literally in front of hundreds of people, including staff at the facility and everything. Nobody gave a shit.
If you’re just sitting in a corridor and chugging on a vape, I’m pretty sure someone will care, but if you take the odd puff, and you’re not in people’s faces about it then it’s unlikely anyone will give enough of a shit to say anything.
Aside from that, I want to amplify that there is a residue from vaping, it is very little compared to cigarettes or any other combustible tobacco/nicotine product. I usually notice it the most in my car. It makes the windows look almost oily…
I wouldn’t say it’s particularly difficult to get off of the surfaces, after all, e-juice is water soluble. I’m not saying it’s easy, just not hard, especially if you compare to the tar from combustible tobacco products…

On one hand you guys argue “it’s just water vapor”, on another, you’re claiming it’s so addictive you can’t even take a shit without taking a puff?
Also, weird admission lol. Do you eat lunch in the bathroom too?
Sounds like you have a nicotine one, so it’s basically still second hand smoke

My comment was based on the parallels which can be drawn between so desperately needing a nicotine “hit”, that you’re doing it in the least hygenic location, and the similarity with hardcore druggies who snort drugs off the toilet lid, because they can’t wait a few hours…
It’s further supported by the fact that you’ve flooded this comment 4x, in a way that suggests this isn’t the first time it has been suggested you have a problem… In fact, if anything, it seems you’re trying to justify others being forced to breathe small amounts of nicotine by suggesting everyone has a drug problem anyway.
Your comment not only has nothing supporting it, but, despite the attempt, doesn’t affect me at all honestly. I run a free hiking group, and the ratings for me as a guide/person are good. I’ve had maybe a grand total of 3 or 4 glasses of drinks this entire year honestly during special occasions, and most events I go to, nobody even drinks anymore (I’m also trying to lose more weight, and alcohol doesn’t help with that).
Just remember, in 20 years time (possibly when you have cancers discovered to be common with vaping years from now) you’ll never look back at vaping and think it was worthwhile. You need to ask yourself if they’ve ever made your life better, or whether they’ve made tobacco shops lives better only…

I won’t be responding again, but you seriously need to consider mental help.
I’m not sure what else you have going on, but there is clearly a lot happening. You clearly need more hobbies or something
Seriously, go join a Meetup, go hiking, etc
You don’t need nicotine to relax. You just need something to distract you. And that’s coming from someone who used to stress every night…
The way you’re responding is a serious concern that makes you sound like a suicide risk honestly. Maybe you need a change of environment

Because they have from the car to the door to do it then who knows how long.
Almost like it’s an addiction
No shit.
Because the vape makes me go from my hyper impusilve impatient regular self who I was long before vaping (and why I started using nicotine or seeked it out in the first place) and patient temporarily, I get like an hour at least out of that hit before entering a building, usually do it because I forgot to vape before leaving or while walking.
The issue isn’t that I need to hit it right then and there, the issue always comes later when the restless legs kick in. Btw maybe not great to know for those with restless legs, ive had it forever growing up, nicotine/thc combo makes it go away temporarily and you can stop being distracted by your body and actually do stuff with full focus.
No shade from me. I get it.
I’m glad I quit smoking and never did vapes.
Same except I did do vapes. And yeah it was really hard to quit the vapes, but I think it did help me.
titrating down by mixing some low nic juice and 0% nic juice helped. Although I swear going from 0.0001% like trace amounts to actually fully 0% with a clean pod hit like a mac truck of anxiety and dread panic.
I feel like Lemmy is starting to have a real problem with houlier-than-thou posting.
Life is fucking shit, if people want to cope through that with a little recreational drug use, let them enjoy that small pleasure. If you don’t want to vape, more power to you, just don’t act like it makes you better than them.
And I’ll fuckin do it again.
If they banned drinking coffee indoors, you’d see people greedily and overzealously tapping the bottom of the cup for the last drop of precious magic fluid to touch their quivering tongue before entering a building.
Incidentally I’ll take the smell of a fruit vape cloud over coffee sphincter breath all day long.
Well one smell is one you don’t like, the other actually damages your (and everyone around you) health.
I bet it’s not more and even neutral compared to the shit you breathe in when city commuting lol
Everyone is acting like they’re blowing it directly in your face… Walk down a city street and you just inhaled a ton of shit, but no one says anything lol. Hell, opening a window in an office in some towns with their are quality would be more damaging. But the vape, that’s the problem.
Also the point stands, tons of people are addicted to coffee and act generally the same. I don’t know why people just love acting each other over everything.
Also the point stands, tons of people are addicted to coffee and act generally the same.
The comment that you replied to explained why it’s not the same.
And I disagree with that comment.
