The word futa or futanari is a term I unfortunately see used against trans women and actual intersex people. It is a term which originated in porn and anime to describe someone with both types of genitals, usually though it just refers to someone who looks feminine and has a penis. So it’s no surprise it’s very often used to describe non-op trans women primarily. Because it’s often used in porn it carries strong connotations of sexualization and dehumanization, it reduces the person being called futa to an object of sexual desire and doesn’t respect them as a person.
This term is extremely disrespectful and really has no place being used, especially in reference to trans women. Additionally because of its relation to porn people who use it will almost certainly be seen as chasers.
Personally we have a hard time seeing it as a slur on the level as other ones used for queer or trans people, though feel free to clarify on this.
However, it is absolutely wrong both morally/ethically and scientifically most of the time and it bothers us to no end, because for most people it just doesn’t fit the lived reality or if it does we apologise but it is absolutely fetishising those of us who are trans femme and/or intersex and that therein we feel lays the crux of the problem — fetishisation.
Those who are trans femme and/or are intersex do not exist just for others to get off to.
We also notice it is a problem in a misogynstic sense too as porn artists choose to do it in some cases to characters who have certain gentials in canon and are fine with those genitals but the artists do not think that those people, especially those presenting as femme, can have those genitals and be powerful or in wlw relationships or relationships with femme presenting people, other people with those same genitals or perhaps just in general if they are strong, not submissive or confident in some way.
Please let us know if anything we have said here isn’t understandable or crosses some line.
I’m not saying it is on the same level, just that it’s a slur, it is used to objectify and dehumanize trans people, usually trans women, by reducing them to their genitals and a sexualized stereotype. So while it isn’t the same level as trnny or fggot or groomer, it’s still very bad in a different way.
Gotta escape those asterisks with a \
Wait tr*nny is a slur…? Why?

Huh… Some friends have been calling me tranny granny for a while now…
We understand now, we’re going to process this. Thanks for clarifying!
Why are you speaking in the plural? Who else are you speaking for?
We are plural as it says on our profile.
