Why not both.
But replace salads with doing everyone else’s job
We walk around with our salads because we completed our tasks in less time than it takes the three outliers to do theirs. Get good, martyrs.
Well this salad isn’t going to walk itself.
I’m one of the 3, but I hope to eventually become one of the salad people.
In reality, each of those 15 people do a very specific, probably undefined, but valuable task.
There’s always some random spreadsheet, or paperwork, or approval that only they know even exists. Or they know exactly how to get that one important system back online when it fails every 6 months.
Management sees those 15 people walking around and think they can just fire them and only get the benefit of the 3, but in reality, it just pushes those tasks to the 3 folks and makes them even more overworked.
Not everyone needs to be heads down at their desk for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week to be valuable.
One of my bosses (yes, I DO have more than 1) has a sign on his desk- “nobody knows what I do until I don’t do it.”
Today they downloaded 23GB of porn to an external ssd and lost $1,235 in their personal portfolio.
Don’t fuck with the lead IT person.
“But why don’t you block the porn, Reygle?” NEVER interrupt management when they’re making a mistake.
I’m confused, you let them download porn at work because they have a sign on thier desk indicating thier value isnt obvious?
It is more “this manager thinks he is one of the core people” but the commenter has logs and proof that he does nothing all day except break company policy. If the manager ever decides to fuck around and fire people, he gets to find out pretty quick.
OP seems to not understand the sign…
Dude probably does nothing 90% of the time, but if he’s not there for at least part of that other 10%, everyone is fucked. Positions like that do exist.
This isn’t one of those cases, but I agree those can exist. They don’t justify a salaried full time position though.
unfortunately those positions do justify full time positions frequently as otherwise there wouldn’t be anyone within many hours to do it
I worked with someone who would bring a salad everyday to our meetings and cut it up and crunch the entire time, even when people were talking.
Their reasoning? They had to eat and didn’t take lunch because they had soooo many meetings.
Did they do any actual work, oh hell no. They just blew wind out their ass to the right people and crunched on salads all day to appear busy well everyone else did the work and took normal lunches like normal people should.
If I take lunch at a meeting, it’s because the company is paying. If I take lunch at my desk, it’s because there’s an important (not work related) event streaming that I don’t want to miss.
My lunch time is sacred, there’s no way I’m trading that for a meeting.
Hey, these are my emotional support people. Leave them alone.
Salad? Look at this dude and his bougie workplace. Due to budget cuts I only see coffee, tea, and depression as “fucking around accessories” at my workplace.
Might be because nearly my whole floor is tech workers though.
Proud salad eater checking in.
I feel it’s the autists sincerely applying themselves all day long to hold the house of cards together because they understand the importance of holding the house of cards together, while the rest are only interested in finishing their workday and going home and collecting their paychecks and will get visibly bothered if you make them think too much.
Love seeing unironic supremacist messaging getting upvoted on Lemmy
Fellow autist here, and at first, yes. Suffered from burnout … and now the workplace can burn for all I care, I will leave on time.
I have made a point to start and finish on time, along with taking my lunch breaks and regular hourly little stretch-eyesight breaks…
It’s all the time in between that I struggle not to go 100%, burn out, and start making stupid mistakes.
The last few weeks have been a thorough burn out, and we’re only in February.
You apply yourself long enough, you are bound to burnout, and then you learn to correctly prioritize work & life.
You mean I could be having a salad RIGHT NOW!?
Its the fault of the structure tho. If a department hires people without specific goals or tasks in mind and never checks in with each employee properly to see how/what they are doing, then this will inevitably happen. Just view it as inofficial UBI through the backdoor, then its not so bad.
*cronch*
Mmfh - Yah, welp - mmm one sfec . . . mmmgk . . . Yes, ah well, salads are delicious and until David makes up his fucking mind, y’know?
*cronch* *monch*
Mmfh. Swo googh.
what kind of salad is that
Soufwess
This is truth, this is one of the reasons why so many pieces of shit are pushing “Return to Office”
No it isn’t. The people pushing RTO are doing it to make people resign. They are changing working conditions in a way that isn’t protected by law to avoid constructive dismissals and severance pay.
Don’t forget that their real estate leases are up and those restaurants, stores, etc. gotta serve someone.
