I believe you used the link feature correctly (normally the client takes care of resolving it without redirecting to a different website (not sure how lemmy handles it))
If you want to access/repost old reddit memes, there were bots to mirror some subreddits to the fediverse: @egg_irl_bot @traabot
(Note: I’m not sure if lemmy supports opening these and these are only bots, but maybe someone looking for memes might find them helpful)
