They need to post to the community, then you click on the “…” menu on their post, and there will be an option to make them a moderator. And yes, you can add users from other instances

An existing moderator needs to add the new moderator (from the existing moderator’s home server).
Alternatively, an admin of the server the community is hosted on can do the same

Are you trying to add the new moderator from your instance (rather than the communities home instance)
Yes, let’s clear this:
I have an account on lemmy.ml, and there I created a community
Due the exodus from reddit, created an account on lemmy.zip
Posted over my community with this new account
And that is all… don’t have anymore to do
And then, you logged in to your lemmy.ml account, found the post from your lemmy.zip account on lemmy.ml, and couldn’t see the add moderator option?
Do you have the option to turn anyone else in to a moderator?
