Immigration policy is all about having control over the supply of labor, and its cost.

Having an undocumented and potentially instantly-deportable work force helps keep wages low, and lets them be deported at the drop of a hat if there’s an oversupply of labor.

Having an indoctrinated nativist / chauvinist population also creates a constituency to make deportations viable, and justify segregating “non-native” workers into low paid, exploitative jobs.

This is all really common in the US, UK, France, and Germany.

A month ago I just bought a xiaomi tablet for my main work machine. Full android, with no google play / google play services, and it runs f-droid and all the apps fine. Haven’t missed any app on the google play store, or that require play services.

If google keeps on alienating people, people will move over to HarmonyOS, or a lot of the larger chinese companies making android devices will maintain their own AOSP fork, and google will be as irrelevant worldwide as apple is.

This is no different from viewing all, going to a federated community, and replying to comments there. This changes nothing about federation.

This doesn’t change anything about existing federation; you can even have crossposts in the same server or even the same community (like a historical link).

Yep that’s correct. Unfortunately a lot of apps start adding app-specific features (which is fine of course), but then don’t make issues upstream about the lemmy back-end supporting it everywhere. Kind of a conflict of interest where devs want you to use their apps with the most killer features, but don’t care about the rest of the eco-system or helping other apps at all.

No release date on 1.0 yet. The back-end is 99% ready, but we’re rapidly updating [lemmy-ui] to get it ready also. Then jerboa is next, then a longer period of testing and bug-fixing.
