I just realised I hit upvote on just about every single post and most comments kind of instinctively, meanwhile think like 5 mins before downvoting.

What are your upvote habits??

    We don’t have downvotes on my instance, and it’s an amazing difference. I recommend it!

    I generally just upvote everything I like, no real thought process involved.

      I love downvotes, it’s the one thing that makes lemmy/ reddit different from other social media and it generally moves the worst stuff out of sight.

        The fediverse software I’m building weights the upvotes based on whether the instance has downvotes enabled or not. No downvotes = 0.5 weighting (admin configurable). My thinking is that when there are no downvotes, half of the signal is missing so upvotes from that instance are less useful.
