She’s okay with her bathroom being for men and women. What she really means is she doesn’t want trans people to use the same bathroom, and she would not invite trans people into her home. But don’t worry, no trans people want to be in her home, either.

The GoP needed a cultural political weapon. So they picked the weakest minority, gays and trans people. To use as a distractions, while they rob the public and destroy the country.

Most people don’t give a shit. Literally or figuratively.

30% of America represents the majority. Out of that 30%, most are just going along with whatever because they’re dumb and watch media that validates their fears but if the story changed tomorrow they would let it go.

The remaining sliver of this group are the true fucking nutcases who post this kind of stuff like in OP’s image because they really do believe it. Because they are dumber than shit, they don’t think with language, they react to feelings and let their autopilot fill in the blanks and appear functional in society.

They are the absolute loudest and most energetic of every segment, and as such they get seen the most and influence the most people.

This is a broken system and we need help.

It’s entirely a modern, “developed” world phenomenon where everything in the world is sexualized to the point that you can’t use the bathroom or shower around other people without feeling weird. That weird feeling is real, and you can’t just hand-wave it away, but it’s socially constructed. I think we should all remember that. There are currently and have been many times and places where people just don’t care nearly as much about each other’s bodies or being seen by others.

When you really think about it, it’s absolutely crazy. We have been wearing clothing for less than the last 100,000 years or so. A blink of an eye evolutionarily. And that was just cold environments. Before that, we had a 4.1-billion year unbroken chain of successful life that as far as we know, never wore clothes or felt shame going to the bathroom.

Nudist spaces (for example sauna) are relatively common in some parts of Europe. I don’t think it’s necessarily a western thing.

I started to type “western” and then used the word “developed” nation instead, and even then I realize that’s not entirely accurate. Places like Japan and New Zealand have public baths, often with little or no real separation between genders. There’s a famous pic out there of a yakuza woman bathing with her male compatriots. They have a stronger stigma about tattoos than boobs.

Conservatives would absolutely explosively shit themselves if they visited a bathing area in New Zealand, or for that matter any of the many, many nudist communities in the US. You know, those places where we hear about horrible sex crimes that happen every day?

Wait, I’m being told that’s actually churches where the horrible sex crimes happen. Churches where people wear clothes.

I fucking swear, the same people who scream about bathroom “safety” are the same people who think all men are rapists if they so much as see a woman’s ankle and blame victims of assault for what they were wearing.

Yeah, it’s certainly irrational, but as you said, it’s very real. I don’t want people of the opposite sex looking at me naked (or even the same sex, but that’s less bad), and I’m sure they feel the same about me.

To me that sounds quite sad. Non sexual nudity is a unique experience it’s unfortunate that many will never be able to enjoy it or disassociate it from sexuality.

In Germany there are big and accepted nudist spaces. It was also quite the cool experience meeting strangers in a public sauna in Finland. It was such a peaceful environment, as everyone was literally exposing themselves and showing a certain vulnerability that we do not encounter otherwise.

I love the unisex bathrooms at the Kansas City airport!

Floor to ceiling stalls that I don’t have to dance around in to open and close the doors. Large open spaces to move between stalls and the sinks.

Sure, the open stall count and lights aren’t reliable and the workmanship on the sinks and soap dispensers is pretty crummy, but the layout and convenience are fantastic!

And it’s not like there are only unisex bathrooms there. It’s easy to choose another one if you prefer.

But why bother. They’re more private than most other public bathrooms in the US. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I fly through KC often and the gender neutral bathrooms are right past security, so I go in there nearly every time to at least wash my hands. There used to be a tiny jolt of surprise when I saw a man in there just because I’ve been so conditioned against seeing that for over 30 years, but that’s gone away because why tf do I care who sees me wash my hands?!

Can we just get a bathroom design where they are a wall of stalls with a urinal and toilet inside and the hand washing station is on the outside without a door blocking the path? I hate bathroom doors after washing hands, especially when they don’t have a way to open the doors without touching the handle. Just put the sinks outside the bathroom.

You can also just sit to pee, so that there’s less urine on the seats and around the bowl. No need for a urinal, which also has splash back.

That’s a bad argument. How many people have hundreds, maybe thousands of people using their toilet every hour? Urinals are made for high traffic areas, where large numbers of men need to pee, and they also save water by not needing to be flushed every time.

Home bathrooms are single-occupancy, plus most people don’t have the room. They’re definitely beneficial for higher volume places as add much more capacity for less space, and act as an “express lane” of sorts.
