Dove knows that the right wing outrage machine will advertise their products for free if they partake in the culture war. And they know left wing customers will specifically buy their products specifically to spite the right.
This was a calculated business move. All advertising is. Don’t believe that they care about you or any other trans people.
Unilever cares about you if you’re shareholder, or a mark.
Seems like the advertisement is working as intended. I found This video goes over how brands can leverage “woke outrage” for profit.
If they are making the advertisement anyways, representing trans women seems better than having no representation though.
Wow! You know how my comment was researched.
I can’t even find the ad referred to in the article, and it looks like Dove created an ad featuring a trans women back in 2017, and it doesn’t seem to be up anymore either.
I wonder if that’s intentional damage control, just enough to rile up the right-wing headlines and get publicity, but removed so the damage doesn’t get out of control like it did with Budweiser?
Dove seems like good people. I just wish their soap didn’t make me feel so oily
Dove’s owner, Unilever, had been a notable holdout after many western countries halted operations in Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. They continued to do business there until Oct 2024 when they sold all operations in Russia to a Russian manufacturer.
They and their companies have been on my “don’t buy” list since the war started.
I did not know this. TIL.
They were not on my list, but they probably are now.
Their products are not great.
Pathetic.
We should teach kids how to defend themselves against marketing tricks…
