Any ideas to find trans friendly clothing stores near me? Live in a fairly conservative place but don’t really have access to online shopping. Idk, just want to actually try a dress on somewhere.
Sometimes a store will say on their website if they are LGBT friendly, or you can look up reviews on Google Maps
Yeah, my work (not a clothing store) says “LGBTQ+ friendly” on google maps in the about section so with a bit of luck maybe a local clothing store has that.
I’ll look more closely for this.
I’m guessing you live in the U.S.? Geez, what the fuck is wrong with that place, that you can’t just go shop wherever you want?
I guess Americans have a different definition of “freedom” than I do.
Not the US but not a trans friendly place in Canada.
Crap. There goes my illusion of Canada being a better place.
Lots of places are! Just not the rectangle in the middle.
I started with fetish stores as they are used to it, and they always have good help for some reason.
Now I take a friend with me to try out new places. I’ve once had an angry looking lady so that’s pretty clear, but most of the time employees were vocal supporters.
Also conservative area.
So, by fetish store, is this like a “lingerie store” or what? What’s it called?
Sorry I didn’t get a notification. Here’s an example. It’s for buying outfits for sex clubs or for at home, but as I mentioned they often also have more normal stuff.
That’d be the stores which sell personal lubricants, sex toys, and clothes for any local strippers or social media models in your area. Naturally they’re a great place to find some out till dawn outfits and dangerous heels. Just don’t expect that you and a friend will be allowed into the changing room together!
Oh and you can usually get a good discount if like you do any modeling online or dance in the area!
Oh! Ok so basically just an Adam Eve or whatever type of place? Or the back half of Spencer’s 😅
That’s a good call, and I know there’s one next to the biggest queer bar in the province.
They often have stuff that’s not too crazy, like a nightdress and stockings.
No totally but a place kinda guaranted to be more friendly is a really good call, especially for a first step.
Target is where I found my first dress. The staff were very friendly and helpful! Later a cis-ter and I went thrifting and found some cute stuff. That store even offered me a job working there :) After a few months I meet another trans woman working in the Target cosmetics and we became friends pretty quick! My city is pretty progressive and even a sanctuary but the state is terribly fascist. Try to be confident when you go and don’t stress too much! Anytime I need a confidence boost I’ll put on some fabulously femme trans music like popgoth’s A-Squad
I’ve been trying to find more femme trans music, any other suggestions? Gonna listen to this on my lunch bike ride.
Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t know of anyone else quite like popg0th to recommend. Maybe Ayesha Erotic? There’s Against Me!'s lead singer Laura Jane Grace, which is a fairly well regarded band. Kim Petras you’ve surely heard about right? She was the first solo out trans woman with a number one hit in the US. Celeste’s soundtrack was written by Lena Raine and she also wrote some of Minecraft’s as well. Have you found any others which you like?
I’ll have to check out some newer Against Me!, Last I remembered was Teenage Anarchist and always liked that song. Not surprised there’s not much out there like popg0th lmao. I’ve heard of Kim Petras but have not actually heard her music (except for Unholy which is pretty dope) so I’ll have to check out more of her stuff. I still have to play Celeste lol. I tend to suck at finding new music.
do you have an h&m nearby? they’re a very open minded and accepting company and as such they attract that kind of talent
if so, signup for the email for 10 percent off and you can also donate clothes there to receive an additional 15 percent on top!!
I don’t think there’s one in my city but I think there is in the next city over lol.
Torrid has been really trans friendly for me
Love the look of their stuff
Have you found a local or nearby trans support group? They’d probably have the best recommendations…
I have not. I’ve looked a bit but I’m not really on most social medias which is kind of an issue for this kind of thing.
I found mine via my therapist. But also try googling “trans support groups near me”…it’s surprisingly fruitful (pardon the pun).
