We watched the first 15 minutes of Section 31 waiting for it to get good, and it never did so we gave up on it. It only struck me later what bothered me so much about what we saw.
Prior to this movie, who did we know in Section 31:
Reed
Fiercely loyal, by the the book, clever
Bashir
CRAAAAZZY smart, caring, scientifically minded, big thinker strategist
William Boimler
High achiever, rapidly upwardly mobile getting a crew position on the Titan before joining Section 31 and given his own command closing rifts in the multiverse.
Khan Noonien Singh
Brilliant human augment, hyper intelligent, calculating
All of these were top tier thinkers. They had loyalty to the Federation and were willing to do what they thought best to secure the Federations future even if it meant getting dirty so others could stay clean. Nothing I saw in the first 15 minutes of the Section 31 movie had any characters like these. We got the worst “bad of misfits” style buddy-action characters. I hated all 15 minutes that I watched of the Section 31 movie.
I wouldn’t consider jj-Kahn to have any loyalties or concerns for the Federation. He was self-serving and only cared about his other augments.
I think he believed himself and the other augments were the true representation of humanity. He was loyal to the idea of humanity’s continued existence to the better. He just had a really twisted definition of “better”. Still, I would have been more okay with JJ Kahn to be in Section 31 than what was introduced in the Section 31 movie.
Indeed. Section 31 doesn’t need disposable fodder. they are an agency full of 007 types, not ‘suicide squad in space.’
I had wished for an appearance by not dead Trip Tucker.
They just show Tucker’s corpse in a drawer.
Announce a Lower Decks 6th season and I’ll throw a parade.
I can at least hope Tawny Newsome’s comedy will go well.
They aren’t lower decks anymore. Maybe a Upper Decks series?
I’m still holding out hope that that the long play. The trouble is the studio haven’t exactly shown themselves to be smart when it comes to Star Trek lately.
Yes, that too.
When Bortus and Klyden ran in the woods nakie in front of their loved ones, as is tradition. 🧑🍳🤌
Arthur’s knights. When there was much rejoicing.
What??? This is the news I needed.
Why Orville when it’s so anti star Trek. Sexism racism etc. why?
Somehow people don’t see it.
But I mean, some people like Enterprise , section 31 or Picard that contain the worst morals ever shown in a Star Trek show so people are not going to see the problem with the orville.
The whole show was made in reverence to TOS and the “golden era” of Trek. It’s a bit goofier, but the show as it went on tackled several tough social topics that would make Berman squirm.
Oh yes the episodes where the most manliest crew member is hermaphrodite and has partner drama with someone that looks as manly as them are hilarious
if you meant Bortus, no, he’s male not intersex. male Moclans laying eggs doesn’t make them not male. their daughter Topa’s storyline has intersex vibes but it’s questionable whether she can be called that
Sounds right, my memory is not great
I do remember laughing a lot though

It depends. Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds are all great (the former two take a moment to get into their element, though).
Probably watch 10 episodes of Prodigy before making your verdict, and probably through the first few episodes of season 2 for Lower Decks.
For Discovery, I’ve found it make many mistakes, but also been, it’s been fun at times. I’ve only watched through part of season 4.
I liked Discovery, but you can’t background-watch it. If you stop paying attention for 5 minutes you’ll lose track of what’s going on. It’s very JJ-trek.
Edit: to include 1/3 of Picard

Only watch Picard season three. Skip the first two seasons. Also, lower decks is pretty great. Strange new worlds… Your mileage may vary on that. Avoid discovery.
Finally someone who agrees with me! Season 3 was what season 1 should have been.
i guess it depends on what you consider to be the good stuff to begin with. SNW is essentially more TOS and TNG which makes it a pretty safe bet. Lower Decks is great but it’s very different, being a comedy first and foremost. if you want to play it safe i would avoid Discovery and Picard, and that’s coming from one of the ten people who liked parts of both of them
