The word futa or futanari is a term I unfortunately see used against trans women and actual intersex people. It is a term which originated in porn and anime to describe someone with both types of genitals, usually though it just refers to someone who looks feminine and has a penis. So it’s no surprise it’s very often used to describe non-op trans women primarily. Because it’s often used in porn it carries strong connotations of sexualization and dehumanization, it reduces the person being called futa to an object of sexual desire and doesn’t respect them as a person.

This term is extremely disrespectful and really has no place being used, especially in reference to trans women. Additionally because of its relation to porn people who use it will almost certainly be seen as chasers.

Probably a hot take but I disagree, it’s the same issue as the whole “trap is a slur” situation that I also disagree with.

The issue is that, if the word is used against a trans woman without bottom surgery, it’s a term that might not fit or be appropriate. With trap, it’s just straight up misgendering, but it might fit someone who still identifies as male. With futa, (if I underatand your point) it might carry a lot of sexual meaning with it which could be inappropriate.

It’s an issue with “who uses the word to describe who”, and therefore isn’t in my eyes a slur.

    Edit: clarification

When one is using it on themselves like you describe it is a form of reclamation. Same goes with trap.

Though I disagree with you and find “trap” to be uber offensive even as someone who is also a femboy, because it implies I pretend to be a woman to trick people, really gross.

You are spot on that these words are mainly offensive when used against people pejoratively, in that context they absolutely are slurs.

Best argument I’ve heard as to why it’s a slur. Honestly thank you.

The term is rooted from “entrampment” referencing a legal defense where straight cis men would seek a lesser charge than murder because the victim “tricked” them into being into the situation.

The trans panic defense is a closely related legal strategy applied in cases of assault or murder of a transgender individual whom the assailant(s) had engaged with, or were close to engaging with, in sexual relations, and claim to have been unaware that the victim was transgender, producing in the attacker an alleged trans panic reaction. In most cases, the violence or murder is perpetrated by a heterosexual man against a heterosexual trans woman.
