Yeah, people keep saying “This time they’ll see!” But, aside from the occasional “leopards ate my face” moment, the same people keep lining up for more of the same.

And much of the consequences are sloughed off on the people who are fighting hardest against it.

They’re fucking around, and we end up finding out.

I was in the US for the first trump election and in Britain for Brexit. And now I’m back in the US for this shitshow. It’s like I can’t escape the crazy – it’s following me.

Or maybe it’s all my fault and I’m a bad talisman. I dunno, just please make it stop.

ah yes, the illusion of my vote mattering in my state, topped with an icing of illusion of the candidates undemocratically selected by my party representing my views in any way whatsoever. But I’m told it was on me to get off my couch and go vote for one genocider or one that was very likely a genocider, but also a complete fascist nutter. Both choices have broken laws that should have put them behind bars for the rest of their lives.

Really, this is all my fault. Why am I so terrible?

              very likely a genocider

There are a lot of things to be said about Trump, but we’ve actually had positive headlines regarding genocide heading into his presidency, and it’s no coincidence that the ceasefire in Gaza will go into effect when he takes office. Genocide Joe is just going to stack corpses until they wheel him out of the White House.

I don’t say this pretending that there isn’t likely some profit in it for Trump, because we saw in his first term that every decision he makes profits him financially in some way, but grift is better than more dead civilians.

Its well documented that Netanyahu and Trump are buddy buddy. I guarantee you the timing was to some degree chosen explicitly to benefit Trump. Netanyahu is doing the kinds of things over there that Trump is just itching to do here. (or in Canada or in Mexico)

If Trump gets any credit here it’s for being every bit as moustache-twirling-evil as Netanyahu such that their worldview and interests will tend to align.

      Not if historic patterns repeat.

Clinton, Dubya, Obama, and Trump all went into office with control of Congress and lost it at the mid-terms, so it’s not unlikely that a portion of voters will flip in 2026.

They’ll be back in 2028 though, when the Dems nominate Gavin Newsom and try replay this ‘joy and unity’ bullshit again.

I’m not exactly sure either but the “not my president” thing seems to be primarily but not exclusively used by conservatives when they’re not in power.

But lack of progressive messaging, the genocide, and doubling down on neo liberal policies actively suppressed the vote. I blame the people who stayed home, but the blame for them doing so is exclusively on Joe Biden who will be remembered as the president who enabled Trump the second term and everything that that enables.

Probably the end of democracy in the US and likely a form of techno-monarchy and neo-feudalism.

In which case you’ve indirectly given Trump a higher chance of winning (sorry…). I’m also voting green here in Europe, but there’s a slight difference with the electoral system. In the USA, I would’ve had to vote for the democrats, not because I really support their ideas, but because they’re the only party that has a realistic chance of winning apart from the drumpsters. It’s the sad reality. I hope USA at some point changes their voting system to be more democratic, but right now it’s choosing between the lesser evils…

So, the argument you have is that voting doesn’t matter individually, only in aggregate.

Not entirely. In democracies that e.g. use coalitions to get the majority, like a lot of european democracies, this absolutely makes a difference. But the USA just naturally leans towards this 2-party system. Which btw. degrades the “democratic” aspect quite significantly (i.e. USA is quite low on the democratic index compared to e.g. Norway).

If everyone would sync up and vote together for a different party, it would make a (big) difference. But hey let’s be realistic… I’m extremely idealistic and take every opportunity to change this fucked up system/world to the better. But still I’m living too long on this planet to not be realistic and just see, that there’s unfortunately way less people really wanting to change this system apparently, or rather(?) not seeing what could be done when working together (it’s not even that many people even to make a significant change when e.g. protesting), but it’s this: “working together” where we’re just failing bad, the world is too scattered to see this, and instead further and further falls for the technofeudal (increasingly oligarchic) system that builds and abuses on emotions (mostly anxiety)…

So instead a lot of people vote for whatever candidate sugar-coats and bleats (and lies) the loudest - sadly.

If you want to lose in 2028, just stick with that smug nonsense, even though you know it doesn’t work to win people to your side. Dems have spent the last three elections driving away votes they need if they want to win, and eventually you’re going to have to learn to engage with people in a reasonable way if that’s what you want.

It is wild, though, that after three disastrous elections in a row (and yes, I"m counting Biden barely squeaking to a win as disastrous) you still think it’s a good idea to annoy the shit out of everyone in your social circle.

There is nothing smug about this. This post isn’t about winning people to “our” side. It’s about a dark acceptance of the downfall of society. One that anyone who’s been paying attention has seen coming for a long time. We vote, we gripe online. It does nothing. Because it’s designed to do nothing. We recognize it yet, it’s all we can do. We either hold hands or we fight. Either way we burn together.

        It’s 100% smug.

If the problems that began under Biden continue under Trump, and your message isn’t 100% “Come back to the Democrats. This is how we’re going to make it better,” along with a solid plan to actually do it, you will lose again. The words “I told you so,” shouldn’t even be in your vocabulary anymore after the last three elections.

        I’m not alt-right.

I’m not even a Trump supporter.

I can, however, look at the last three elections and watch the results of you and yours making it very clear you don’t want people’s votes. Making people despise you isn’t working.

Found the “secret” conservative. Peddle your dumb rhetoric elsewhere, convervatives have been more hateful and despiseable for decades. Reasonable people are fed up with fascists trying to lie, cheat, and bully their way into everything, we’re totally allowed to be angry and it’s valid to express that. When Biden won, you assholes were so mad, the internet blew up with dumb right wing memes, “He StOlE ThE ElEcTiOn!!! So UnFaIr!!!” Fuck off.

            Respectfully, you’re wrong.

I’m a Green. I don’t support Trump. I don’t support Biden, and I don’t pretend that I’m not a conservative (when conservative outcomes are what the person I voted for produces) just because my team wears a blue jersey as you do.

The new game from antagonists on Lemmy that get their kink off fighting is calling people secret conservatives. I really just try to avoid talking to them, it’s usually just to get a fight they can wank off to later.

It isn’t rank-and-file Democrats. At least, not directly. It’s their shitty candidates. And they might’ve actually gotten Sanders nominated, if the DNC hadn’t forced Harris on us.

There was no way that Harris was going to win. It didn’t matter how nice or persuasive her supporters were. People could clearly see that she was an empty suit.

Don’t you realize what a tremendous self-own that is?

“We’re so dumb, we can’t even get stupid people to vote for us!”

Here’s an idea. How about asking the people what they need, and then making that your platform. Have you thought of that?

Feel free to do that then. I wish you the best of luck.

The problem is, the stupid people are angry, but barely know what they are angry about, so they will latch on to the first person that feeds their anger. Of course, feeding the anger will make things worse, but that doesn’t matter, since it feels good now. Now you have a double problem of the original issue still existing, and half the population asking you to make it worse, and getting mad at you when you don’t.

Basically, America is fucked, and I’m just hoping they can keep it limping along long enough for me to die of old age before it completely collapses.

They can’t win when they aren’t even allowed to pick the candidate. The DNC already plays with a stacked deck, but they still thought that the risk of a Sanders nomination was too likely. That’s why they forced Biden/Harris on us.

It’s been like that for the last 2 months.

Silver lining is that we’re looking at a clown-show fascist circus instead of an effective fascist takeover.

This might very well not (yet) be the “burning of the reichstag and declaration of the state of emergency” part of the fashist takeover. Trump is incompetent but if he does to much damage the government might just complety collapse and musk and zuck can enact a monarchy.

I am much more afraid of the people in the second row ready to take over than of trump himself.
