So, if you put three points in it would you still get the 75% more energy for any +2 equipment you use?
Yes, I’m fairly certain. I’ve asked this in the Discord before. It really needs clearer language. Adding “also” somewhere in tier 2 and 3 would clear it right up. “This talent also gives yada yada for tier yada yada.”
Even then it would still be slightly confusing because a really logically minded person might think +1, +2 and +3 apply simultaneously to tier 1 gear because it objectively qualifies for all three levels of the talent. If all three levels are active at the same time, then it’s a logical conclusion. So it would need an additional note at the end that each piece of gear only benefits from the highest level of the talent it falls under.
It’s hard to word it precisely without being a giant wall of text. Maybe it needs to be a wall of text. This gets asked so often.
I have no idea. Never used unencumbered spirit because it seems stupid and too big of a tradeoff for just some energy.
It’s actually really, really good. If you play Duelist and find an early Round Shield and get a good wand from the Old Wandmaker, playing a ranged shield Monk is tons of fun! You get so much energy back from kills by wearing tier 1 gear. And you never get hit because you’re ranged, so you don’t need armor, and you can also kick everything in the face for megadamage if they get close. Dragon Kicks become like 1 energy, and even free sometimes (due to rounding, I think.)[1]. The shield is for facing ranged enemies that surprise you. Or for just walking around melee enemies. EDIT: or for meditating in the middle of a fight!
Except if you kick from full energy because the energy you spend for the kick is taken after the bonus energy is returned, so you pay full price for a kick from full energy. This seems like a bug to me, but I haven’t tested it in a long time, and I haven’t bothered reporting it. ↩︎
A Monk with a good enough wand can just go +3 unencumbered spirit and use both T1 weapon and armour. The bonuses stack for both pieces of equipment, so you get 3 times as much energy as you normally would (3 energy per normal enemy, 15 per boss). With something like a +6 wand of fireblast you can easily kill 3 or more enemies with a couple of charges and then get back 9 or more energy which you can spend to meditate which will give back those wand charges you just spent.
With the other Monk talents (combined energy and monastic vigour) you can make meditate cost only 4 energy and even heal you for 20% of your missing health! This is so much healing over time that you basically don’t need food anymore because you can heal back all the starvation damage as long as you keep killing enemies and meditating.
Oh, yeah. I forgot about Meditate. It used to be even better, before it got nerfed a little recently. It’s still really good. It’s tons of fun to activate shield and then meditate in the middle of a fight.
It used to give you even more energy for meditate and dragon kick (2 instead of 1) but it was a bit harder to use since you needed to use the monk ability and weapon ability on consecutive turns (either order).
Now you have 5 turns which means you can use a weapon ability at the start of a fight, use some wand charges to kill all the enemies in sight, then meditate and get your energy back!
The other really cool thing is that focus is instant (with monastic vigour) and lasts forever until blocking an attack so if you’re diligent you can basically have focus up all the time so you’ll never get surprise attacked by a ranged enemy when you walk into a room! With combined energy +3 those focuses will only cost 1 energy each which is crazy cheap!
Yes. If you have level 3, the benefits of levels 1 & 2 also apply.
