We’re about to find out which companies and brands actually give a shit versus those just support gay people because it’s cool, aren’t we.

That’s a bit of a generalization. I work for a big corpo job and they’re genuine in looking out for their LGBTQ employees. Last year I pointed out that the complementary employee gym didn’t have single-stall or gender-neutral showers, and met with the head of facilities the next week to come up with a gameplan to make the gym more inclusive. They’ve been keeping me in the loop on the construction timeline. This is far beyond their legal requirements.

This is why the LGTBQ community expresses concern over corporate cooption and appropriation of pride events. Never ever trust corporate America. They may proclaim inclusion and equality but it’s a thin veneer of marketing to make cash on perceived “trends”. The only war is class war. They don’t care who you are, they will say they support you up to the minute they lay your ass off for the company having one marginally poor financial quarter. They will drop you like a bag of dirt when they can cash out with a bonus. Investors, stockholders, and upper management are their only true concerns.
