Is this… Is this a post from vegan’s being all like “omg we be discriminated against, look we are the same” when literally all the others are actually very marginalized very threatend groups? I’m trans and this meme is the same kinda feels of PETA saying there like trans people on how horrible it is, and getting hunted down. When in fact my whole life I have never seen any vegan get denied basic services to the extent of any marginalized people In my decades of living. It’s always them wanting to take over Marginalized communities and make it all about them (in my experiences I have had)

Yes there are religions that have vegan type restrictions, there are trans people who are vegans. That’s all ok.

It just doesn’t feel equitable to me trying to place something someone chooses to do by extreme marginalized communities that are often hunted down (in some places literally hunted down)

As always it’s ok to be vegan, or vegetarian. And I get the reason for it. But doing this kinda thing just makes me feel like how PETA is and try to redirect all the attention to them.

isnt this so disrespectful? i know she says “im not saying they face the same discrimination” but… media literacy: 99% of people who view this juxtaposition will come to the conclusion she kind of is saying that.

sunshine if you are reading this, just like… make better memes. you have noble intentions but wow this isn’t the way to do it lol

I’m not saying the groups face the same level of discrimination just that they need to be treated better. I’m trans too, I know the severity of the situation.

The reason why PETA gets a lot of negative media attention is because of the propaganda from the right-wing political entity Center for Organizational Research and Education slandering the most effective animal rights organization by twisting the facts and spreading misinformation.

The Center for Organizational Research and Education (CORE), formerly the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) and prior to that the Guest Choice Network, is an American non-profit entity founded by Richard Berman. It describes itself as “dedicated to protecting consumer choices and promoting common sense.”

Projects and campaigns of CORE include Humane Watch, a watchdog of the Humane Society of the United States; the Environmental Policy Alliance, which criticizes environmental activists; and Activist Facts, a site dedicated to tracking tax-exempt nonprofits.

The organization defends the alcohol, meat, and tobacco industries and has been critical of organizations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Humane Society of the United States, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

Experts on non-profit law have questioned the validity of the group’s non-profit status in The Chronicle of Philanthropy and other publications, while others, including political commentator Rachel Maddow and author Michael Pollan, have treated the group as an entity that specializes in astroturfing.

You absolute fuck I was setting myself up for a similar joke. Couldn’t you have just said “I think its for vegans” or something so I could have replied “okay, but what’s the flag for bottoms? They need protecting.”

Discrimination against vegans is a real thing, there are instances where individuals were treated worse, denied housing and work opportunities all for simply having different beliefs. You should consider reading these articles on the topic:

          Does Veganphobia Exist?

          • Many people may assume veganism is an easy choice, driven by fashion and fads.
          • Veganism often has a foundation deeply rooted in personal ethics and beliefs.
          • Vegans are often severely stigmatized and may find themselves rejected by mainstream society.
          • Our spiritual and ethical beliefs can be just as powerful as organized religion.

          Vegans Suffer From Stigma

There are many circumstances in which vegans are treated or considered worse than nonvegans, both in the private and the public sphere, either due to the presence of a bias against them (‘vegaphobia’) or for structural reasons. For instance, vegans sometimes suffer harassment, have issues at their workplace, or find little vegan food available. In many cases they are forced to contribute to, or to participate in, animal exploitation against their will when states render it illegitimate to oppose or refuse to support some uses of animals. For the most part this remains socially invisible. Vegans, however, often recognize this as a form of discrimination against them. But they seldom campaign against it, as they regard it as a consequence of another and more important discrimination, i.e. speciesist discrimination against nonhuman animals. If this is correct, discrimination against vegans can be characterized as a form of second-order discrimination, that is, discrimination against those who oppose another (first-order) form of discrimination. If speciesism really is unjustified and discriminatory, then discrimination against vegans will always be discriminatory and unjustified too. But even if our current attitudes towards animals were justified there would be strong reasons to claim that vegans do suffer several forms of private and public discrimination that are unjustified.

Are you being serious? People choose to be vegan. Don’t put vegans on the same level as groups that are being persecuted, that’s not cool.

I love everything about this, and I just learned there’s a vegan flag (yay!), but the vegan flag looks like an email icon to me 🧐

The vegan flag is gorgeous as it stands for the compassion towards others. Hopefully we will see more being flown all around the world and an emoji made for it.

It does look a letter haha
