I’m so tired of the healthcare system. I work as a nurse for one of the largest and most reputable organizations in the US. And getting culturally competent care is ridiculous. There are only 2 providers in the entire organization who are willing to take trans patients, and I’m outside of their geographic area (never mind the fact I was given a referral by the trans specialty clinic when I explained I don’t need transition services, just a doctor that knows the basics of lgbtq health).

I know people have it worse than me, but it’s still bullshit I can’t just call and make an appointment. This is already the third round of calls I’ve had to make just to get an appointment set up.

I think the worst part is I had a job in gender affirming care I was fired from (for daring to suggest we have signs for our clinic, or trans patients be able to call the regular line). I loved the work and the patients, and it felt so good to be able to help people like me get the care they need in a respectful and competent manner. But now I’m back to taking care of old, entitled, and almost exclusively white cis het patients. I hate being part of a system that perpetuates disparities, but I’m stuck because I can’t find any way to provide this care without earning another degree.

Thanks for letting me vent.

You were fired because you suggested signage that told prospective patients where they could find the business location? Because you suggested that patients use the regular business line to call the business? Sounds to me like you dodged a bullet getting fired from a place like that. Sucks the followup gig sucks too.

Remember: insurance companies exist to extract money from their customers so they can give it to businesses, and do not exist in order to insure goods and services against risk. It’s bullshit, agreed.

Ugh, feel this so hard recently - the most expensive, most thinly stretched health care system in the developed world. I pay through the teeth for this shit and nothing is ever covered, out of pocket costs are still insane, even for injuries. Now we get yearly out of pocket deductibles you must meet before they start covering things - literally designed to discourage you from getting care so they can collect premiums and provide as little as possible.

My provider recently changed it so that my yearly checkup isn’t with my MD primary care physician, they hire a staff of PAs who handle checkups now which I’m sure is much cheaper and guarantees nobody pays a fuckin second off attention to long term care.

Fuck this for-profit bullshit, so frustrating to have to battle with base unadulterated greed when trying to get basic preventive care to make sure we don’t die early from something stupid.
