no lie, i saw a bumper sticker that said “this is america, speak english!”

it was on the back of an isuzu hombre. don’t think it was meant to be ironic, as it was surrounded by other typical dumb conservative buzz phrases

Nah. We spend all our time making sure that the other person can’t do the work. The worst fucking thing on earth is someone allowed to actually just do their job.

This picture is from a trip to Miami. If it’s sold in America, then it’s what Americans wear. I agree with Japan.

Honestly. The only thing they got wrong is the cowboy hat, and that’s just because it’s uncommon in most areas of the states. We’ll slap the flag on anything - even things that it’s “illegal” to put the flag on according to the same rules that say that you have to burn the flag if it touches the ground, like paper napkins.

As a Dallas resident, I’d assert that the cowboy hat is a fairly common accessory for women. Not so much for men until you get way out into the rural areas. (Fort Worth Stockyards notwithstanding)

Sure, but Dallas ain’t the east or west coasts, and even in the Midwest, it’s probably pretty spotty from one locale to the next on whether or not you’ll see them being worn. I think big straw/woven sun hats are probably more uniformly worn across the country than cowboy hats.

Now, if we were talking about baseball caps with a sports logo on it, then I’d say it’s as endemic to every corner of the country as oxygen is.

It’s actually against the flag code, which is not law. So it’s at worst deeply disrespectful, depending on how seriously you take that kind of thing. But we also have this freedom of expression thing going on, which includes being obnoxious or disrespectful, so one might have a hard time getting the flag code into law in the first place.

That’s why I put illegal in quotation marks. It’s not actually illegal, and few people even know what a flag code is, let alone care about what’s considered disrespectful (except when it comes to protesters burning the flag, then it’s horrible and offensive).

Besides, consumerism trumps everything, so companies will happily slap a flag on anything and everything because American jingoism will eat it up.

It’s not illegal, it’s just ‘against flag code’ which is not and can not be law.

Funny enough, burning the flag is the proper way to dispose of damaged flags, according to flag code. Those damned anarchists and their proper flag disposal

As I said in another comment, that’s why I put illegal in quotation marks. I honestly couldn’t come up with the right term, so I just went for the sarcastic air quotes instead.

As for the flag burning, you and I are on the exact same wavelength there. I commented on that in my other comment, too!

That bikini top is absolutely the wrong size for that mannequin. It should be wearing a much larger cup size. If that were on a woman with the same proportions it would be as uncomfy as hell. Of course, I highly doubt the shop even stocks the mannequin’s size at all because very few people have that big a cup size. So really the problem is that’s a shitty mannequin.

I saw two different women wearing something similar last night. The cowboy hats were those cheap distressed straw hats, though.

TBF felt hats are stupid hot and with the heat we’ve had ain’t no one gonna wear a hat like that. If I could find a good star cattleman hat I’d be happy, but I haven’t had any luck myself

I’m a pinch front guy so I’m no help there. I’ve got a Stampede straw pinch front that’s super comfortable and has lasted me probably 10 years so far but they don’t make it anymore and I have no idea what their quality is these days.

I’m pretty sure Stetson (the company) makes them, but I’m not sure if Im going to pony the cash up without checking out a hat first. I actually do want a straw one - my cattleman is black felt with a silver clasp, so it looks kind of silly without my frock coat (or at least white shirt and black pants, looks too formal).

Actually I was curious just now and it looks like they sell at a store in town (in Minnesota!) so I’ll have to check it out.

My dad also likes the pinch front, he always claimed it was easier on the crown.

I don’t know if it’s easier on the crown, I just know that I feel like it looks better with my face.

Stetson makes a good hat. I’ve got one of their black buffalo hats but I’m not home to look at the model. It’s one of the low end ones so probably a 4x? I’ve also got one of their 10x that I had the crown reshaped on because I loved the fit but it was a cattleman.

The funny thing is I don’t really wear them in public except on stage so I tend to wear the cheap ones (that’s where the Stampede does its job) so that if it gets messed up I don’t care so the ones I use are all naturally distressed from being abused. I think I’ve worn the good one twice outside of the house, once to a country themed wedding and once to a funeral for an old rancher. I’ve also got a straw and a wool one that I wear out to my buddy’s ranch with drawstrings just to keep the sun off.

Now that I’ve said it out loud, I realize I have too many fucking hats.
