Never watched the show but I googled her and the problem isn’t that she’s a fatty. It’s that her face shape is so round, so people see more fat than if there.

I’m probably a good 50 pounds heavier but my family has obscenely high cheekbones so even as a fatty I have those hollows in my cheeks that people assume is thin. It’s not the weight there, it’s bone structure.

Same. People always assume I’m a smaller clothing size than I actually am because of this. A (new, Karen) colleague recently asked if I’m on Ozempic because of my face. Like no it’s not Ozempic face, it’s my face.

On the one hand - big boobs, small boobs, big dick, small dick, short, tall, fat, thin, young, old, whatever quality, people have been happily fucking for the entire history of the species. Internet outrage at any given body type as being unacceptable is akin to virtual media eugenics and is stupid.

On the other hand - big boobs, small boobs, big dick, small dick, short, fat, tall, thin, young, old, what quality, I tire of both the media and its detractors telling me that I MUST be arbitrarily aroused by any given person because it satisfies a given narrative. This particular person is not sexually attractive to me not because of body size but because I’m old and she looks like a child to me.

Love who you want to love, fornicate with whichever consenting partner you wish. Take love where you can find it, and be happy when you can attain it.

On an unrelated note, one of my favorite lines came from Barbara Ehreinreich, though I can’t recall which book, and I’m going to heavily paraphrase as I don’t recall the exact quote: “The media was horrified to learn that elderly, wrinkled, fat couples were rolling around in bed together and enjoying it.”

I don’t think anyone is telling you that you have to find her attractive? It’s more a complaint at those people who say that she’s unrealistic as a love interest and that no-one could be attracted to her, which is simply hypocritical misogyny.

WRT the last paragraph, I’ve always liked James Joyce’s love letters. Sex and body image has become far too sanitised in media in my view.

I don’t love the way it has to tear down the other characters in order to prop up the one. Surely the message could have been gotten across in a more wholesome way?

Based on the comments in this thread, it seems like the show is making the other women look unappealing on purpose.

  • I’ve only ever watched the show in passing, as in literally just passing through the room. And it is painfully obvious in an instant that her character is the ONLY one that is pleasant, eloquent, intelligent, and kind in any appreciable degree. That’s what’s fucking sexy about her character.

Moreover, those other waifs don’t even know what sex is, but that girl FUCKS with nerdy literary passion and will let you cry like a baby into that cleavage afterwards.

Which person? The one in the tumblr image above is saying she IS sexy and beautiful. The one(s) referenced as saying she couldn’t be a love interest? I haven’t read any of their actual comments here but I tend to agree that if you get on a soap-box to scream to the world how something in media you’re choosing to watch makes you feel, you probably have more complicated feelings about the topic than you’re letting on.

The person in the Tumblr image. It seems that there’s more going on there than whether or not the woman in the show is attractive.

Why? Because they have different standards of what they find attractive?

Different strokes for different folks friend

No, because they reduce a woman’s physical attractiveness to “big booba and I see some o’ dem!” That line of thinking is only ever heard from people who aren’t themselves attracted to women. Trust.

I think the user at top of this thread was confused and thought the image from Tumblr was being critical and saying something negative about the actress in question, or they meant to respond to the referenced haters.

Whatever it is, the comment was too confused for any of to try to make any kind of statement about anything about it.

Uh… I’m the user at the top of the thread and I’m not confused at all, lol. I legitimately don’t think that the original Tumblr poster is attracted to women. That’s my opinion based off the post. I could very well be wrong, but that’s how it reads to me.

You think the person praising the actresses appearance and saying how hot she is not attracted to women?

I am utterly lost how the general internet generation armchair psychologizes other people anymore, I will assume this is some new “everything is reverse” zoomer thing.

Overgeneralizing what? This post is clearly from the perspective of someone not attracted to women. Another dead giveaway is the fact that they have to denigrate other women to justify this woman’s attractiveness. The writing gives it all away quite clearly.

I didn’t say that. I said they needed to denigrate other women to justify this woman’s attractiveness. I didn’t say there aren’t straight men who aren’t assholes about women.

So guys who say stuff like “I prefer natural looking girls, not ones with caked on makeup” or “I’d only date a virgin. I don’t want any roast beef” or “no fatties, I only like thin girls” are what? All secretly gay or ace?

ETA: my point is, people do comparisons all the time when talking about how one person is more attractive than another or than most other people (some more mean spirited than others). It often isn’t right or cool, but being mean doesn’t mean you’re not attracted to the person you’re contrasting.

You are clearly mistaken. When the cat 5 titties started heaving they caught your attention, by design. Akin to Frank Lloyd Wright-esque compression and release, the show up to now was staffed by thin and tall women and her breasts were bound (compression) and then they slammed her into lower cut dresses that strained to hold them in (release). Booba is a major plot point, and boy do they heave. Praise shondaland

I always struggle with believing thin people as a convincing love interest. I understand that’s what most people like but I still can’t relate to it.

EDIT: looked up some pictures, she’s big enough to be a halfway convincing love interest
