Theoretically, there’s nothing stopping any new country from joining getting a carve-out. You just need everyone to agree to it. And tbh, getting them to agree to let Canada continue using the Canadian Dollar is probably a much smaller ask than getting them to let a North American country into the European Union.

aomstats.io is a really great resource for this kinda information. In my own games, I can’t say that I’ve actually noticed too many people playing Freyr, although for unrelated life reasons I haven’t played more than a handful of multiplayer games since the start of March.

The data on aomstats.io seems to say that yes, Freyr is still very strong up to about 1300 Elo. It looks like your best options for countering Freyr are Loki or Poseidon.

I had my filters there set to the current and previous patch, just because the current one is so new that its data is very limited. But the early indications, when I look at 1v1 games in only the latest patch, are that Freyr is nowhere near as strong as he once was.

Love this patch. Fixed an enormous bug I reported after seeing a high-level game casted with that bug. Added a few major UX improvements people have been asking for since the beginning (colour selection in ranked games! Ability to replay save files at higher speed than 2x!) Fixed a few bugs introduced by the previous patch.

Plus a bunch of good balance changes that were sorely needed.

It may not be an issue anymore (I don’t recall hearing about it in a while, but I’m not sure how long), but it used to be the case that there were two countries that were often regarded as EU troublemakers, and by working together, even though they didn’t agree much of the time, they could veto any attempts to undermine each other. I think the other troublemaker was Poland, and I think it may have been before their last election, but that’s a lot of unsurity.

Suspension, fwiw, requires unanimity apart from the country in question, so one single dissenter can prevent it.

The EU requires unanimity among its existing members in order to add a new member. It’s not impossible, but getting Orban to agree to it is, I think, a much bigger stumbling block than the article implies. Any “concessions” Orban demands to accept Canada would themselves have to be unanimously agreed to by existing members.

Not only were they not mature yet, they didn’t exist. Web apps as a concept did…sorta, barely, but the ServiceWorker API that defines true PWAs wasn’t introduced to Chrome until 2015—and Safari (on both Mac and iOS) didn’t get it until 2018, over a decade after the original iPhone launched.
