Summary
During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) repeatedly shouted an anti-trans slur despite objections from Democratic Rep. Gerald Connolly.
She defended her remarks by attacking transgender rights and dismissing criticism.
The outburst drew condemnation from LGBTQ+ advocates and political figures, highlighting her shift from previously supporting LGBTQ+ rights to embracing anti-trans rhetoric.
Mace has used the slur in past statements and introduced legislation restricting transgender rights.
Most likely tr**ny
That used to be the word I used for the tranmission of my car. Not any more. Bigots spoil everything.
There was a push years ago to stop using slave and master in IT. It did not work.
It kind of did. Git changed its default branch name to “main”.
I think switching away from master/slave vocabulary is probably for the best. Getting rid of “master” in other contexts seems dumb to me because master has always had many uses not connected to slavery.
One that I surprisingly find myself agreeing with is replacing blacklist and whitelist with allow list and deny list, but not because I think using colors is racially insensitive; it’s because allow and deny are more clear to people from different cultural backgrounds.
I never would have thought about cultural connotations of black and white. Yeah I can support that change.

Hate speech is intended to encourage violence and dehumanize others. Censoring the word helps build the social taboo that discourages the use of hate speech and helps isolate people who insist on using it.
Adults take responsibility for the effect their words and actions have on the world.
No censoring word is for cowards and assholes. Same as banning books. Stop censoring words were not children and no one hear is encouraging violence. Just trying to get the full picture. Just like I will call that GOP member who used the slur a fucking cunt.
Unless you’re trans, that isn’t your call to make. You don’t get to decide that it’s ok for people other than yourself to be exposed to slurs. Stay in your own lane.
Speaking as someone who has been subjected to slurs and violence for who and what I am - why should simple exposure to slurs be where we draw the line? For me it was almost always about the hatred behind them; discussions about someone else’s hate for me are going to hit the same whether the words are printed or not.
I don’t think the word should have been censored here - either print it or drop the quote.
Nor do I think a report critical of someone using slurs is normalizing the use of them by quoting them. This isn’t the casual use of slurs in everyday language as a synonym for bad.
You’re free to argue for the normalising of slurs people level against you. I won’t stand in your way. But again, you don’t get to decide that slurs used against other people should be normalised, when the impact of those slurs isn’t felt by you.
Cool. Not at all what I was arguing - too hard to see from up on your high horse?
But I’m just sitting here, genuinely wondering what the slur is she used, because I have no idea. I’m not well versed in trans slurs. Idk, news reporting should at least give me some way to find out… Like a spoiler tag to click on. Just… something.
It was tranny bro. It’s not that hard to figure out you could have just googled it and figured it out lol
It’s like these people weren’t even hearing people cuss in the 90s. Oh yeah that’s right, I’m old.
In the 90s, I barely even knew what the English language was.
Thanks. It was answered a bit further up. But it’s still a bit weird that I had to come to the comments and even here nobody wanted to say it :D I think the “not knowing from the article” is still valid. Not everyone knows everything.
Well I could have been more descriptive with my reasoning sorry.
What i was alluding to was a way to potentially find the answer even if no one in the comments helps you. Say we were talking about a homophobic slur f*****. You could google “6 letter homophobic word starting with f” and the answer (for me at least) is in the first link to Wikipedia.
Hope that helps.
The internet is amazing. You see someone with their light coming on and showing growth and then you also see this guy in the same post.
We’re* and here*, child.
You’re wasting your time. I got banned from somewhere else earlier for talking about this. They are so unbelievably sensitive that you can’t even type out a word in a conversation about what words count as a slur without them taking that very discussion as a slur. Zero thought from them as to how that might become a problem down the line.
They don’t see any difference in saying a word while discussing the word vs using the word directed at someone with malice. They are incapable of understanding any nuance in language.
Grow up.
Who is more grown up? The people who are able to have calm discussions about controversial words without losing their minds or the people who can’t even type out a word without having a meltdown?
Seriously do you guys even own mirrors?
Why are you here?
I enjoy talking to lots of different people on a variety of different topics.
Other people have different perspectives than mine and while I often won’t agree with them I am happy to hear them.
I personally believe that in order to be a well rounded person you need to be able to discuss a wide variety of topics with a vide variety of people. If you only ever surround yourself with people that already agree with you on everything you aren’t exactly challenging your own beliefs very often now are you?
Just like we can’t say Voldemort right? I dunno in reporting they should report what is said. Reporters should be asking. “What do you have an issue with. Diversity. Inclusion. Or equity? Don’t be shy get specific for me!” But they are all billionaires whores.
As an exercise to the reader, the above post was exercising the slur liberally in an attempt to claim it’s “barely an insult”
Mods seem to think otherwise :)
Damn, what a fucking bigot.
