Yes. No one questions my points of view. I can isolate myself in an echo chamber and start a circle jerk with like-minded people. /s

On Lemmy, suddenly it’s like a cold war has started. Iron curtains are erected everywhere.

Community moderators are blocking people seemingly randomly for trifles.

Moderators without any restrictions (restrictions they previously had on Reddit) are attempting social engineering and this will only strengthen threads and other corporate competitors.

Nobody wants to hear some dumb bullshit argued with them. It does not change minds like you think it does. It does not result in productive conversation of opposing views. It does not create a structured debate. It just ends up two people arguing with each other without either changing their mind. It’s literally useless. If you think that’s desirable and want to call it an echo chamber to not want to pointlessly argue, then don’t be surprised when people don’t want to associate with you.

Yup this is why I block after commenting now. 20 years on social media, taking abuse and insult the whole time because I disagree with someone. I’m just done.

Tbh, so far, I think lemmy has the least amount of toxicity of any social platform I’m on! Maybe we’re browsing different corners of it, hahaha

Well I explain myself the “lack of toxicity” with moderators without boundaries. Most instances are extremely strict and are trying to create “safe-spaces”, where their (mostly political views) are unchallenged.

And unsurprisingly Lemmy has been flooded with radical leftists and the radical right. Same what already happened to mastodon.

So I do not consider Lemmy a low toxicity platform. Quite contrary. All the normal people, the average people, have stayed on Reddit, because they don’t really care too much.

So what views are you seeing being excluded?

What politics are you not seeing represented?

Because I have a feeling I already know lmfao

I’m mostly browsing memes, tech and nsfw here - all quite apolitical (some memes are, but I ignore that stuff).

Interesting point. I’m sure there are also people who just like the idea of federated platforms, like myself. I ascribed the lack of debate to just how new the paltform was. In general, I agree, if there’s no debate, it means that one of the sides is supressed.
