The “there” makes it implied past tense. But I’m sure it’s more important to nitpick trivial parts of someones comment on the internet.

So saying “there on Thanksgiving” is implying distance in time from the “here and now”. I understood OP immediately and it actually took me time to figure out why the guy who replied mentioned Thanksgiving.
