I saw a clip of this moron for the first time a week or two ago.

The entire segment was him saying that genocide against native peoples was justified because they too had violence present in their societies. Of course, the overwhelming majority of complex life on earth include violence in their behavior repetoire.

So per this dipshit, you’re morally justified in wiping out complex life.

Bill Maher is the smug “liberal” elite that I think conservatives think all educated democrats are. He thinks he’s the smartest person in the room, has consistently bad takes and just generally sucks. He is all but the definition of smug. He thinks he’s George Carlin but is not

        This.

I cannot tolerate him. It’s the conceited, condescending, arrogant attitude.

I loved when Bill Burr and Seth MacFarlane put him in his place.

People like Maher is why blue collar Americans hate liberals.

During my “libertarian” phase I was trying to get into him. I figured out pretty quickly that he isn’t well researched and his only response to anything he disagreed with is condescension and pessimistic sarcasm.

On cable as long as you had a DVR you could skip every commercial. With streaming, ads are baked into the experience and commercials can be made unskippable. It sucks.

Reminds me of how when my kids finish watching a decent-quality kids show on Prime or YouTube, the algorithm will try to autoplay absolute pablum like Baby Shark, Cocomelon, or some other trash. It’s like it deliberately chooses the most basic mind-numbing schlock available.

The algorithms prioritize things that other users spend a lot of time watching, not relevant or healthy content. Just addictive slop. It’s such a major failing of our institutions that this practice hasn’t been regulated away.

You can’t hide channels on YouTube without a 3rd party addon. YouTube kept suggesting me videos from channels I think unsubscribed to until I did that.

To stop YouTube from suggesting a specific channel, follow these steps:

        1. Open YouTube on your device.
        2. Hover over a video from the unwanted channel on your homepage or sidebar.
        3. Click the three dots that appear next to the video title.
        4. Select “Don’t recommend channel” from the dropdown menu

Maybe try opening the yt app on your tv amd doing it through that UI. Could be your desktop browser’s anti-tracking is messing it up.

I only use yt though a web browser or through Grayjay. I don’t even have a smart tv. If the 3rd party antitracking stuff is messing things up, I’ll fix it with other 3rd party stuff.

No, the 3rd party blocker is working just fine. Before that, I would select “Not Interested” or “Don’t recommend this channel” and it would remove certain channels for a while, but eventually the algo decided that I wanted to see those “high engagement” channels.

I’m jumping into downvote pool but yolo - I kind of like Bill Maher. I don’t agree with him on everything, let’s say I disagree with like 30% of his points. But rest of it is kind of on point? And that’s fine, I don’t have to agree with people on everything. Actually that’s one of the points I liked from him - to learn to disagree. In today’s polarized world that’s a surprisingly refreshing idea. On the other hand I fundamentally disagree with him on Covid-19. So yeah. Also I find myself laughing at his jokes quite a lot, he has good writers imo

I think I fall in the same camp of agreeing with a good chunk of his points while disagreeing with others and I even have laughed at many of his jokes. And I’m totally fine with that for people I enjoy watching. However, what turned me off of Bill Maher a decade ago was his overall manner and attitude. He just started coming across as arrogant, obnoxious, smarmy, and untimately unkind, even when I agreed with him, which I did not enjoy. It was much in contrast to other satirists who may have mocked people, never felt like they were out to denigrate. Maybe his content has changed, but I haven’t noticed.

I haven’t paid him much attention the last few years but that’s always been how I’ve felt about him.

Even if he’s wrong half the time, at least he thinks for himself. That’s a quality I respect in people, which is sadly lacking these days. People are right about his arrogant attitude though. Probably why I stopped paying attention to him.

I used to be a Bill Maher fan (like in my teens) his smugness was really off-putting though so I ignored them.

Religulous would have been more fun if he wasn’t such a prick in it. His outro was annoying AF.

Bill Burr said he was on the side of the student protestors calling for an end to the Palestinian genocide. Then Bill Maher said (I’m paraphrasing) that it’s the same as being pro-Hamas. Fuck Bill Maher.

Oh, interesting. This is the first I’ve heard of that sort of thing happening on YouTube. I know other platforms have different stuff in different regions. Netflix, etc. But I didn’t consider that a show would post full stuff for just non-US regions.

          Thanks for the details.
