So, I’ve now had a 9 year account and a 13 year account both permabanned.

They’ve linked them as the same user and banned me for a benign post on r/pics.

I lost all faith in reddit when they changed the api then Relay for reddit stopped working.

Base model app is shit.

Comments constantly erase and empty endpoint error.

Can’t even say ‘I like that player two energy on super Mario bros’, because that’s ‘violent’.

I’ve posted tens of thousands of comments and only recently had issues.

Got banned for saying ‘Elon simps in our midst’ referring to mods…who proved my point.

And finally now, they are paywalling shit soon.

Adios.

Anyway, I left digg in the great exodus for reddit, now this looks like my new home.

Rant over lol.

Only Lemmy sucks itself off this hard all the time

These replies prove it: nobody performs autofellatio quite like someone who recently discovered that social media platforms other than Twitter/Facebook/Reddit exist. The users of this platform are largely identical to the users of reddit. The biggest difference is that I’m told to kill myself far more often here

I just really don’t like the arrogant, self-congratulatory tone some users of this platform have. We’re just all so much better and smarter and cooler than those dumbass redditors, and all we had to do was sign up for a different social media platform

What makes you think I’ve been banned from Reddit? The fact that I don’t like the superiority complex lemmings have about our relatively tiny social network?

ETA: Not all of us were correctly banned from Reddit for abusing the report system. I have a perfectly functional Reddit account, and I choose to spend my time here because it’s a better platform. I just don’t like to cum in my own mouth about it

Most groups suck themselves off about how awesome they are compared to alternate groups in the same genre. Hardstyle vs Progressive trance. BJJ vs Wrestling. Ford vs Holden cars. etc.\

I feel like the trance disagreement is closest to lemmy vs reddit because the disagreement is on principal largely and the end result is pretty similar for a typical, disinterested end user.

Edit: I spoke too highly of Linux in this comment, I think. While it is true that I have used Linux daily for nearly a year, it has not been as simple as a drop in replacement for Windows. Given a choice, I absolutely prefer Windows, but I will not be using Windows 11, and I don’t want to use Windows 10 after it loses support in a few months.

Installed Mint like 8 months ago. I didn’t even notice that my windows install was doing the failed automatic repair thing until I tried to boot it up for F360 in December, and still haven’t bothered to fix it because Tinkercad was good enough. Try convincing me that Linux Mint is not a drop-in linux solution for the everyday user lmao

Ok I tried Mint a few years ago and it was shit, if you talk like this I’m going to try it again

And when it fails, like it always does, 1) I am blocking you, and 2) I am coming back to shout ‘Fuck Linux’ twice as hard.

I mean if you go into it wanting it to fail, it’ll fail. There’s a learning curve, as there always is with a new user experience. It isn’t a carbon copy of windows, but for the average user, it’s a perfectly fine drop-in replacement.

Look son, I’ve been an IT professional for 3+ decades and I have stood up and admin’ed literally hundreds of linux servers and even I struggled every time I tried to transition my daily driver.

For servers? Nothing better than your favorite linux flavor provided you don’t have any unusual peripherals. I much prefer supporting linux over windows servers any day.

For desktops? Not a chance unless its part of a corporate supported package where I get direct dev access 24/7 b/c when it breaks, it breaks in fucktastically stupid ways especially in large user environments

Do you know the blistering scaburous hell of inheriting a userbase of 300+ workstations running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in the 2020’s? BECAUSE I DO!

I spent eight months trying to build an update path to modern Ubuntu or Mint that didn’t absolutely nukefuck all of their piles of in-house legacy code THAT LITERALLY HAS NO LIVING ORIGINAL DEVS and I fail it so bad I didn’t even charge them for my last 2 months of work

So, please understand I say this as someone with full eyes open and significant industry knowledge: Fuck linux (desktop)

I closed my account 2 weeks ago after being there for 13+ years. Thousands and thousands of comments and posts. Oh well, I don’t even miss it a little bit. It truly became garbage when they locked out free API access. This banning for liking Luigi or shit talking Elon is so against what reddit was about, they’ve lost their way and I refuse to participate.

I lost about seven 12-year-old accounts all for telling off one piece of shit incel, quoting his slur so he couldn’t edit, and reporting him. Mods banned me from a major subreddit for “using a slur” and didn’t listen to my appeal that I was the one fighting the incel and just quoted him so he couldn’t change his comment. Mods acted like pubescent morons and called me names for politely asking for a review of the incident, I changed account to keep talking to people I knew there, got perma-banned for ban-evasion, they sniffed out my other accounts then and banned those too, then I made new accounts but got permanently shadowbanned for criticizing conservatives and reddit mods, made new accounts, those accounts also are now shadowbanned for who-knows-why.

But whatever their excuses are, the reality is clear. They don’t want human users, this is why “shadowbans” are a thing, they want humans to feel like they’re interacting, but in reality they want a billion bots talking to each other and simulating narratives and conversations so they can twist a few dials and change public opinion on whatever they want.

They’re already doing it, it works. A large percentage of users there are already very convincing AI’s.

They aren’t hiding this, they announced that they would be letting AI’s “use” reddit to train and learn. They never specified to what end or how many.

It’s wild, I used to go to bat for Reddit mods, I WAS one for a large community for several years, I have sympathy for the people who work hard to keep public spaces organized without pay, the team I was modding with were good, reasonable adults who had nice, progressive values and fair moderation policies, facing a tireless wave of hate and obscenities and scams.

I learned pretty fast that was HIGHLY unique situation, and the majority of mods on reddit are embodiments of ALL the stereotypes. Smug, condescending, power-tripping teenage assholes who just enjoy waving their impotent magic wands around thinking the power to ban users makes them an actual authority. I cannot stand them, they are the most miserable people in existence.

And again, I say this as a former dedicated moderator.

I think what they meant was that they lost all seven of their accounts because one of them got in an argument with an incel. Reddit can very easily link you to your alternate accounts

Your comments actually get responses on this platform. Whereas 90% of your Reddit comments will never be seen, much less interacted with.

I got banned for more ridiculous reason, reporting someone is a bit too much apparently especially if you try to honestly report multiple violations, and they ban you for doing thet
