Some liberals really tell on themselves when they drop the act and basically admit their conviction to justice, equity and human rights is conditional on your support for their candidate. Seems like blaming immigrants is fine, if you do it to cover for your failed political campaign. After all, they are entitled to the hispanic vote. No outreach or strategy needed other than professing your undying love for hot sauce, I guess.
Like was it dumb to vote for Trump as a hispanic voter? Absolutely. Do I think they did the morally wrong thing? Sure. Do I want them to suffer unnecessary harm I would never wish to see inflicted on people I care about? Fuck no. Best thing I can hope for is them realizing the’ve been fooled and coming over to the other side.
Republicans are playing the media and propaganda game very well (thanks to loads of money propping them up). Whining and pointing fingers is only going to cement your loss. Grow up, you have to earn the vote. You need a strong, unifying and inspiring message, charismatic, authentic and dedicated leaders and a proper strategy to reach all kinds of people on different media outlets, if you want to win in the future.
And this isn’t even touching on the fact that undocumented immigrants cannot vote, and one is therefore punishing bystanders for a perceived lack of Party Devotion on the part of one’s family members, not to mention children and other loved ones experiencing loss and grief, not to mention queer and/or neurodivergent people who often rely on others for housing, etc., etc.
And all this aside, the complete lack of solidarity or understanding of mutual aid and the type of society we strive to create. I don’t talk to my MAGA brother, I don’t love him or personally care for him in any way, but baseline compassion dictates that I won’t turn him away if he shows up in the soup kitchen. And I especially wouldn’t call ICE on my worst enemies. If it’s not an option I’d do against a documented person, then to do so would be pure bigotry based on immigration status. And we all know what this is: Racism.
It’s flippant, but sometimes I feel I should be the only American allowed on XHS. I do not care for other Americans bringing their American social media bullshit to a place largely devoid of it.
My FYP is mostly red pandas and dogs, but I do get some stuff like this. I see your point. It especially annoys me when the really popular creators from Tik Tok post and can’t even be bothered to use the feature that adds Chinese subtitles.
Mine is largely similar, with a good dose of cooking and fishing content thrown in. I low key don’t want to see any content made by English speakers, but if it’s at least made for XHS explicitly (not reuploaded from Tiktok) and includes subtitles, fine. I’ve had plenty of conversations with other Americans about how politics in social media is important, everything is political at some level, etc., and while I generally agree, it’s nice to look at a buncha people sharing hobbies and experiences devoid of the madness that is the USA.
95% of my time on XHS now is spent in DMs. I’ve found it much more pleasant than trying to have discussions in the posts.
