Also to mention that the problem isn’t necessarily being human or not, though anybody definitely shouldn’t dehumanize people against their consent, but how those that are dehumanized or weren’t human to begin with are treated.

Edit: To be clear, we say this from a place of being non-human and find the non consensual dehumanizing of people that identify as human vile, bigots or not.

However, another problem is that when people are seen as not human then they are suddenly stripped of all supposed ‘rights’. The problem isn’t therefore necessarily with not being seen as human but how those that aren’t human are treated too.

A more inclusive word is depersoning if anyone or anymany is looking for one at all.

In this context, I think ‘dehumanization’ really means declaring someone not a valid person, rather than any specific assertion of species. A conflation of person/human much in the way gender and sex are often conflated.

Yeah, it’s as we said both the rights thing we take issue with and the conflation of person with human, since we aren’t and should have the same rights whether or not we are.

Plus being seen as human gives us dysphoria, so we would prefer it didn’t happen. It’s important to include those of us who aren’t human in the conversation and take into account our perspective too!
