Schizophrenia seldom manifests as racist attacks involving firearms. More often that’s a different DSM-4 category, “being a murderous fascist.”

          Please rethink that career path.

Every defense lawyer in a shooting case is going to claim mental duress in a shooting.

People who commit racially motivated crimes don’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Does this man have a history of mental health problems? Are they under the care and supervision of a mental health provider? Are they taking anti psychotic meds?

If any of those statements are true, what were they doing in possession of a firearm in the first place?

All those questions deserve proper investigation. I was not excusing this man from his crimes, merely pointing out his lawyer was claiming he’d had a mental health crisis and that they should be investigated.

And I’m a pretty damn good therapist so I think I’m gonna keep it up. Maybe you should just go fuck yourself?

Kind of two different things. You didn’t ask what mental health emergency he was specifically having, you asked what kind would explain it. That would definitely explain it

It explains it, it doesn’t excuse it. If your brain snaps and suddenly you perceive something as a rational thing to do you don’t really have control at that point. Basically just points to punishment or treatment, not a get out of jail card.
