not defending the 40k number by any means because no one really can source its information correctly, but the reason why a decent chunk of the deaths in palestine are children is because the average age of Palestinians is very low (~18), so in terms of wiping various buildings down via explosives statistically speaking, there will be people under 18 in that explosion.

how many of them are under 10 will be a TBD state till after the conflict, but its definitely reasonable to assume a chunk of minors died in the conflict simply by law of averages and how the targeting is done.

There are a bunch of reasons why the death toll is so hard to pin down, but a big one is that Israel has been denying access to Gaza for most journalists, as well as a suspiciously high death rate among journalists who have been allowed in. The few that are allowed inside are escorted by the IDF and aren’t allowed to venture outside their supervision.

That said, the most recent reporting from Gaza suggests that the official numbers are being wildly under reported, and could be as high as 118,908 or greater.

All of which is utterly unsurprising, considering the vast majority of bomb targets have been civilian buildings and infrastructure (Hamas is always lurking somewhere inside, apparently), and that ~60% of Gaza has been damaged or completely destroyed.

You should study the Warsaw uprising. That’s the situation in Gaza. Everybody knows somebody in Hamas or affiliated with Hamas. Because Israel effectively sealed off the strip and closed all of The crossings years ago, the only way to get goods in and out is underground tunnels that lead into Egypt. Those tunnels are owned, operated and controlled by Hamas. This forced necessary daily goods to be moved underground through those tunnels as well. That commerce enriches Hamas. It also makes them indispensable to the community. So there is a large amount of the population that deals with them on a weekly or daily basis. Not all of them are fighters but they’re all affiliated. Israel has mostly forced them into that situation. So yes they are firing on Hamas members. However, they also forced a large amount of those people to become Hamas members. It’s a real damned if you do damned if you don’t situation because you’re an acceptable casualty. If you’re a bystander and they hit someone that is a Hamas member.

Which is why the only way to ever start unfuck this situation is to provide an economic base and opportunities for the people there some magical organization to provide employment in education and not be biased to the population and not to be influenced or run by Hamas or its affiliates. If only there was a super rich oil Nation right there that believes in most of the same things as the people in Palestine that could help their brothers out.

No, what’s happening in Gaza is nothing like the Warsaw Uprising.

Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005. Pulled out every single soldier and uprooted 9000 settlers. The people of Gaza responded to that act of good faith by putting Hamas in charge. Hamas violently overthrew their political rivals, murdered them all, and then began launching rockets into Israel. That’s why Israel implemented a blockade and fenced the place in. And Oct 7, 2023, was a demonstration of exactly why that was necessary. That attack would have happened much earlier and on a much larger scale if there were no blockade in place.

I can’t put my finger on what is going on here… but are we moving definition of a child to under 10?

Also, is it acceptable that half of dead are children if half of Gaza are under 18?

This is a weird ass comment lol
