That’s exactly it. I’ve paid so much money for my laptop (upwards of 1k) and it only has 2 years guaranteed firmware updates. That’s just sad.
I think firmware updates are often overlooked traditionally because the boot process hasn’t been secured well for very long. Now with BootGuard, Secure Boot, Attestation, etc and Linux slowly! catching up, firmware updates are very important to keep your machine secure. Finding a vendor though which actually clearly says how long the device will get security updates, actually delivers them in a timely manner and also takes care of firmware security is impossible right now.
