Well, I tried. Mom had the temerity to die on my birthday a couple of months ago. 🙄 We were in a legal fight with my aunt over grandma’s estate. Short story, aunt’s white-trash boyfriend tried to chisel extra off the top, we said hell no, not what we agreed.

So mom dies, and since she wasn’t married to her boyfriend of 30-years, all her part of the inheritance falls to me, and he has zero recourse. Y’all, we’re talking an extra $50-$90 large. Yeah.

We talked and I offered him this: Instead of paying extra to open another case with the lawyer, I’ll get mine to draw up an agreement saying that you pay half the legal bills (which I’m struggling to pay) on my existing case, you get half when it’s paid out. And BTW, the only thing I want is grandad’s old shotgun, it would mean the world to me. (Fuck me, most common shotgun ever, old Mossberg 500, $150 tops.) I should note, mom told bf to fight like hell for her part and never give up.

He emailed a week later saying: I’m out. Can’t deal with it. Don’t even really know you. You take it all and I’m keeping the shotgun. Don’t ever email or call me again.

Jesus. Fuck me for trying to do the moral thing.

Aunt threw out 10’s of thousands over trying to chisel an extra $5K, fought her own sister to the grave over it, gets her ass beat on the regular by her boyfriend. Mom’s boyfriend apparently doesn’t trust me, even offered a legal contract, so he threw me enough money to pay my house off in exchange for a crappy shotgun. Plus, I still get my part.

I’ll keep trying to do the right thing in life, but that was damned discouraging.
