Congratulations /c/anarchism, we are deemed lemmyml’s fascist sub of the day!
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.perthchat.org/post/229128 > This is the highest honor lemmyml can bestow upon us. > > I did not link back to OP and changed OPs name bc we should not aggressive engage with OP > > --- > > How can an anarchist community be moderated by someone spreading right-wing propaganda? > > @transformerfan69 > > I’m referring to @altair222@beehaw.org sharing articles like Iran schoolgirls poisoned as “some people” seek to stop education for girls, Iranian official says. The article exaggerates a few isolated incidents to paint a grim picture of every schoolgirl’s life in Iran. I already know the west is going to give the worst possible impression about the news from Iran, so why would you share it? Do you want everyone to see the country from the lenses of the west? Is that what anarchism is about, division and fear-mongering? > > Allowing this person and whoever modded him to remain as mod on any community only serves to reduce the credibility and integrity of the instance as a whole. > > Edit: nevermind, I hadn’t noticed the community is from another instance. >

Lemmygrad.COM Lemmy instance down. It redirects to an anti trans twitter, which could be OP?
This also could explain zer motive for being anti lemmygrad/lml Even wolfballs switched away from open registration due to Viagra sellers so the Viagra bots and the Nazi troll might be different people Twitter: https://twitter.com/xz X = Tron with extra o and a y Z = hateful spelling of tunes (plural)

Grow the fediverse by embracing our cult tendencies?
I'm being somewhat serious. We already have half a cult, since like a bunch of users on the fedi are the 1% of tech, and of that group, the 1% of privacy. Let alone talking about how fedizens are like the 5% income wise. Like occasionally a user comes in and says they're ~~Muslim~~ on Facebook and ~~Christians~~ fedizens spring out of the wood work telling them that fb bad. The rightwingers grow entire movements by having Trump replace god (ex calling him god emperor Trump). Also Q, antivax stuff, manosphere, Bitcoin sphere.

Fapsi.be Shutdown
Since known bullying instances like mastodon.art, tenforward.social, hackers.town, artisan.chat, cloudisland.nz, rage.love, szmer.info, mstdn.social, stop.voring.me, eldritch.cafe, cultofshiv.wtf, weirder. earth, social.cosmick9.net, and their stupid lemmings continue to run lies and hate-speech against me, and now at Mastodon the possibility is given to blindly import any blocklists from these narcissistic sociopaths with their beloved #FediBlock bullshit, I don’t see any valid point in contributing to Fediverse anymore and will concentrate on other things. Therefore, I will shutdown fapsi.be without replacement at the end of February.

Coldy-hoty seems to shut down the nrsk.no 😔 (I didn't ask him about it, just saw that the page redirects to a game instead of lemmy instance) The site's admin has "given up" on Lemmy he said in a post iirc

HeapOverflow.ml domain hijacked!
Thann: sorry guys, HeapOverflow is down right now, because freenom decided to disappear my domain registration… I’ll try and recover it or migrate to a more reliable TLD, but It’ll take some time =/ This should also serve as a warning against using sketchy TLDs

I guess my question is, will i and my community be allowed to stay here or am I just wasting my time. That being said, feel free to dm me or insult me, criticize me as you like. Not sure if this can be seen on the main instance of lemmy or across the fediverse as s whole as im ignorant to this and truth be told, just a former local singer/rapper now turned truck driver. But let me know your thoughts. Also please dont punish kapow for hosting free forum and my band of merry men and one chick Ada; I’ve already defederated your instance from my lemmy instance, but it’s a two person instance, and I just don’t want to deal with communities full of shit posting from a “free speech” space a soviet snake v wiggle https://exploding-heads.com/post/81172/comment/17424 --- nour; What happened to blocked instances list? Lemmy v0.17.0 - proper federation update
Its been a long time coming 🥳 . Excerpt from the link: ## Major Changes ### Language Tags Content can now be tagged to indicate the language it is written in. These tags can be used to filter content, so that you only see posts in languages which you actually understand. Instances and communities can also specify which languages are allowed, and prevent posting in other languages. In the future this will also allow for integrated translation tools. ### Comment trees Lemmy has changed the way it stores comments, in order to be able to properly limit the comments shown to a maximum depth. Included are proper comment links (`/comment/id`), where you can see its children, a count of its hidden children, and a _context_ button to view its parents, or the post. ### Featured posts Admins and mods can now "feature" (this used to be called "sticky" ala reddit) posts to the top of either a community, or the top of the front page. This makes possible announcement and bulletin-type posts. Special thanks to @makotech for adding this feature. ### Federation Lemmy users can now be followed. Just visit a user profile from another platform like Mastodon, and click the follow button, then you will receive new posts and comments in the timeline. Votes are now federated as private. This prevents other platforms from showing who voted on a given post, and it also means that Lemmy now counts votes from Mastodon. This release also improves compatibility with Pleroma. If you previously had trouble interacting between Pleroma and Lemmy, give it another try. We've extracted the main federation logic into its own library, [activitypub-federation-rust](https://github.com/LemmyNet/activitypub-federation-rust). It is open source and can be used by other projects to implement Activitypub federation, without having to reinvent the wheel. The library helps with handling HTTP signatures, sending and receiving activities, fetching remote objects and more. ### Other changes - Admins can now purge content and pictures from the database. - Mods can _distinguish_ a comment, "stickying" it to the top of a post. Useful for mod messages and announcements. - Number of new / unread comments are now shown for each post. - Lemmy now automatically embeds videos from Peertube, Youtube and other sites which provide an embed link via Opengraph attribute. - You can give your site "taglines", short markdown messages, which are shown at the top of your front page. Thanks to @makotech for adding this. - You can now report private messages. - Most settings have been moved from the config file into the database. This means they can be updated much easier, and apply immediately without a restart. - When setting up a new Lemmy instance, it doesn't create a default community anymore. Instead this needs to be done manually. - Admins can choose to receive emails for new registration applications.

Slrpnk.net ownership transfer to poVoq and will survive the upcoming march 2023 instance purge
Small meta update: [@ex_06@slrpnk.net](https://slrpnk.net/u/ex_06) transferred the ownership of the slrpnk.net domain to me today. I hope he will be still around as an admin, but as we are preparing to migrate this Lemmy instance to my server it is easier that I am also in control of the domain. There might be some outage while the domain is being transferred to my DNS registrar. **Sometimes before March 2023 we need to transfer the actual instance from the current hosting kindly provided by the Lemmy developers (the one year free offer)**. I hope to be able to provide an as good if not better hosting (also within the EU), but it remains to be seen how that works out. In case you are wondering: I am just some guy hosting various FOSS stuff privately, so no commercial entity or anything like that involved. Given that this will be technically a transfer of personal data under the GDPR regulations (and Lemmy doesn't have any specific GDPR compliance tools) I would like to kindly ask people with a slrpnk.net account to object here in the comments if they do not agree to me taking over. In that case I will remove their account from the database once I transfer it to my server. Or even better: just delete your account in the coming weeks. Once things are safely transferred I will probably look into enabling additional services. My initial plan is to make XMPP chat rooms and maybe linked accounts available under the same domain. Oh and if you are an active member and are interested in becoming an slrpnk.net admin please send me a DM. No need to be a sysadmin, as moderation etc. also needs additional help. For now there is no option or need to donate, but I might put up a small donation link in the future if there is a demand for it. - povoq

#Fediblock v J doe
A few days ago, a page was published in the Fediverse where you could check which Mastodon instance is blocking whom in the Fediverse. This was made possible by a programmer who used the new Mastodon API introduced in 4.0 and automatically read out the blacklists of the instances. The reaction to the page was quickly visible, especially in the hash tag #FediBlock. There, the first administrators began to demonize the page and cried about how it would allow them to read their blocklists. Not only that the blocklists are publicly viewable, but that it tastes like a filth that #FediBlock apparently thinks it’s okay to publish blacklists with hatespeech-like reasoning to denounce, but won’t allow anyone to use their blacklist to point out which instance is blocking which. Thus, it clearly shows again that #FediBlock is solely a pillory to those who seem to have achieved nothing in their lives. However, the information about who blocks whom is in many ways more than just interesting for those who want to choose an instance. As it was already written in a German thread about the topic, it would be helpful to know whether you reach your target group at all, if you register on an instance. The fact that #FediBlock is so hostile toward this doesn’t exactly represent the transparency they’re aiming for, but rather anarchy/dictatorship. And exactly for transparency reasons, I’m glad that I was able to download this list early enough to make it available to you. For those who now want to complain to me, because I have published this without their “consent”, please send an e-mail to , the request will then be forwarded to my lawyer! And those who are so hungry for consent, you should think about whether you #FediBlocker have the consent for your nonsense? -- J doe retrieved this deleted post from the modlog

Lemmygrad hosts the lemmyverse’s first ARG. Unsure if this has ever been done on the fediverse.
afaik --- I have been terrible and have hidden an alt account on lemmygrad! Spring is coming up soon in a few months, and that also means Easter. And Easter means Easter eggs! Anyway. As you might have guessed, your goal in this Easter egg hunt will be to find out my alt account! You could win a Steam game out of it! (Not any steam game but a specific one as I have some keys, but it's good I promise). Here's an FAQ to help you out during this hunt: # Why are you doing this? I got the idea from last time Wisconcom tried to infiltrate (not the discussion from a few days ago, even earlier) but never got around to it. I want to show him how easy it is to actually make a convincing alt if you put some effort into it, which he never cares to do. But I have full faith in my comrades to figure out my alt account in a timely manner! I must let you know that I taken care to make this alt account as ethically as I could, considering the circumstances. I can't say much more at this time though. # How do I participate? Everyone can participate, except the admins as they know which account I have hidden around if they look into our account requests. You will have to rely on your sleuthing skills as well as discuss with your comrades (edit: forgot to finish my sentence); As of now I will not be replying to DMs about the alt, but this could change too. When you feel that you have collected sufficient clues, drop a comment in the thread below! # How do I win? This is where it gets interesting. To win, you must not only correctly identify the account, but also explain your reasoning. Then, you must make that reasoning known in the comments below -- that's right, everything you say can be used by anyone else to help them so make sure you're right! This means you also can't just spam account names until you get the right one. The first person to figure out the correct account wins! But if you win, you get to decide _who_ should win the key to the game, it doesn't have to be you. That way, you all work collaboratively like communists instead of filthy individualistic capitalists. (we can change this if you also collectively decide it's a bad idea). There might be runner-up winners (2nd, 3rd place etc) as I had originally set aside one key for the game but I still have some that people apparently don't want to take. How ungrateful! # What do I win? I don't want to spoil the game just yet but it has good reviews, it's a good time waster and it came out not long ago on Steam. # What if the hunt is too hard? In the spirit of an egg hunt, I might periodically drop hints. I won't specify how though, you'll have to keep your eyes open. I have no idea if this is gonna be easy or hard, so we'll see how it goes. # When does the hunt begin? And when does it end? The hunt begins now, my alt could be literally anyone! Maybe it's not even created yet? 👀 Who knows! Certainly not me. And it ends whenever I run out of keys. However, if people find it fun, then we will not spoil the answer until everyone has had their fill. The remaining players will simply be playing for fun. If nobody finds my account for a month, let's say? Then the hunt still goes on! You will find this alt, or perish. It's an order!

The life and tale of u/Alice: Lemmy’s first anime hero
Alice washed up on the shores of lemmy.ml with no memory. Little did Alice know about the adventure that awaited him. His voyage of discovery took him to many sublemmies. Upon seeing another soul, he would eagerly run up to them and would ask the most basic questions imaginable. Generally anime adventurers make friends along the way, but not our hero. For what our hero lacked in intelligence and charisma, he made up for with low self control. His incessant questioning eventually got him the booted from a good many towns (sublemmies). Tiring of constant wandering, he cried to the heavens: "In this cruel world, is my destiny controlled by some transcendental god? Well I reject you! I reject you all!" He planted a flag on a remote island and declared it "askwomen". In order to attract women to his island, he made sure to emblazon the flag with a corset, to the chagrin of all. Alice was smited yet again as the gods ban hammered him from lemmy.ml. Through sheer power of will, Alice began to travel through the lemmyverse seeking power. Lemmy.ca - banned. Perthchat.org - trapped in the maze of 'registration questionnaire'. Lemmygrad - smited. Sopuli.xyz - hit by a train. Mander.xyz - arrow to the knee. Beehaw - bleach tranq dart. The forsaken furry, u/wolfballer, seeing our protagonist's plight, welcomed Alice out of pity. Never has Alice found himself surrounded by trumpian furries. Never has Alice felt so at home. Wolfballer, impressed by the impulse posting, gave Alice more power than he ever dreamt off: Administrator. With the energy of 1000 communists flowing through him, Alice rejoiced and redoubled his posting efforts. But alas, it was all a cruel joke. Wolfballer swept the rug. Kicked the ankle. Put a stick in the spokes. Wolfballer gave Alice a taste of power, a taste of friendship, only to take it away. With a cackle and a snort, Wolfballer revealed his trap card: that he was planning to close wolfballs all along. "Any last words?" Smirked wolfballer as he held Alice by the neck over the 404 void. "Out of spite i'm going to get the covid vaccination" began Alice. Wolfballer frowned and released his grip on Alice furry collar. "I'm going to get the covid vaxx and shove it up your mangy..." screamed Alice as he fell, final words consumed by the void. To be continued in part 2: Alice; maximum carnage # disclaimers; I'm sure alice irl is a fine upstanding gentleman and just is on the internet to trash post I don't remember the smaller details like, exact order of which instances alice joined. But the general story beats are factually correct (alice getting banned, dumb questions, becoming wolfballs admin) Cast: wolfballer = u/masterofballs. Wolfballs is an trumpian antivax instance. u/Alice = reddit.com/u/Karlor_Gaylord_Cries = u/pink-lacey = u/TimothyMcFuck. I am 90% certain of all of these. 2009 xi jing shortened edition, [perthchat news](https://news.perthchat.org/) publishing inc. CC0

Wolfballs successfully cancelled and announces it will be discontinued
(MOB cancelled himself and thereby wolfballs) --- Thank you everyone for participating in wolfballs 1. This has been a wild ride. When wolfballs first started there was basically no free speech sites up. Ruqqus was shutting down, scored doesn't allow community creation, saidit was always off and there was basically no where you could post people dying of vaccines. It was a hard time for me. My job was threatened with a vaccine requirement. A threat I successfully fought off with a religious accommodation request. I was scared, I felt powerless, and I wanted a place everyone could come and talk about all the crazy stuff that was going on without being threatened with weird censorship. Like doctors post being deleted. Times have changed. Twitter is a much better place. As we've seen from Elon there is still abuse. But the fedivserse is better too with new great instances like Nazi.st Scotch has a lot of censorship but it is still better than reddit and you can actually get more than 20 upvotes on c/gaming. Discord is now a viable competitor to youtube. Publics is ok, catgirl.gay has cemented itself as the king of say anything within American legal boundaries. (But no tities) , Vivaldi social is a thing and when people want to talk about election problems or vaccines killing there are now mainstream places to do that. There was not before. There was a lot about moderation I did not understand though. For one there are a lot of real nazi's on the internet. I thought most of them were fake trolls just shit posting for lulz. When I thought free speech I thought that doctors, lawyers should be able to give their professional opinions without fear of censorship. That people should be able to give opinions on trials that are not popular but are supported by evidence. Things get much more complicated though. There appear to be government actors and company actors who try to prevent sites from growing by posting purposefully provocative content. Also the reddit format is really a relic from the early 2010's and modern bots don't allow it to function the way it was intended. Up/down votes are meaningless when I can deploy a thousand bots to make content what ever score I want. That is why reddit is full of weird products on the front page and they use so much shadow banning to try to keep that sort of behavior at bay. In order for a categorical social media to work it must involve curation which is just another word for selective censorship. So the format isn't really good for freespeech anyways. I will explore more decentralized social media but it will look different and I will be under a different name. It's time to hang up the mask. Masterofballs unfortunately will die. Due to vaccine induced myocarditis i'm sure. However it is not the end for Mr balls because he will one day be reborn into something else. Maybe something better. wolfballs will stay up for a few days for people to clean house, grab any memes you left and I'll try to keep a backup somewhere and leave a way for people to contact me if they forgot something. I hope everyone can check out Mike Hawk or other cool instances. Thank you everyone MOB

Pleromadrama
Soapbox imo has to be one of the nicest front-ends for pleroma/mastodon style activitypub platforms, but it was intimated there were some reputational issues with it. Not up to speed I did a small amount of digging which led to plermoadrama. The creator/maintainer holds [certain viewpoints](https://blog.alexgleason.me/gab-block/) that are at odds with others in the community, to the point he recently declared Pleroma [to be dead](https://blog.alexgleason.me/pleroma-is-dead/) rebranding his pleroma-be approach as rebased. In addition - one of the contributing developers created a fork called [Akkoma](https://akkoma.social/) based off a [schism in the community](https://coffee-and-dreams.uk/development/2022/06/24/akkoma.html), where they declared their (lack of) [faith that pleroma dev will ever recover.](https://coffee-and-dreams.uk/development/2022/06/24/akkoma.html) Pleroma are currently [working towards a 2.5 update.](https://pleroma.social/announcements/2022/10/25/small-updates-and-donations/)

outerheaven sheds light on who it bans with an ‘imposter among us’ guide
https://outerheaven.club cant find OP One of the easiest ways to strengthen a community against attacks is to shine a spotlight on the behaviors shown by people attempting to sabotage it. This is done by labor organizers in real life to strengthen a group of workers against union busting, for instance. The term often used for this is “inoculation”. Similar to being vaccinated once you are aware of an attacker, the effectiveness of their behavior decreases. So comrades, what patterns have you noticed in wreckers, trolls, and feds? Comment in the thread and I’ll update this post to include your feedback. Terminology Troll Standard internet bog person. Not particularly clever or inventive. 4chan-tier. Nothing in their brain but slurs. Wrecker Typically fixated on the site, repeat and/or sustained activity. (Eg Pumpkin Spice Flintstone guy). Might be a reference to an old USSR term for saboteurs in the party? Fed Rare (?). Tries to encourage illegal behavior. Bad at it. Often doing it just to see who corrects them and in what ways. Patterns I’ve noticed General new account with slightly “off takes” that gradually becomes increasingly aggressive “just asking questions” “innocently” brings up incredibly specific past struggle sessions tries to position obvious shitposts as sincerely held opinions that somehow reflect poorly on the site (eg “everyone loves hunter biden”) attempts to take other user’s sentences out of context and spin it into an argument Wrecker Types Fresh Accounts without History (FAWH) These are accounts created in the last few weeks with little to no activity FAWHs indicate ban avoidance, shell propaganda accounts, and/or a desire to hide a pointed agenda. Identify and counter this by checking post histories. Defrosted FAWHs These accounts behave similarly to FAWHs but show a much older registration date combined with long periods of low activity, reflecting history editing or dormancy. They will occasionally only have comments at or around the time of struggle sessions. Identify and counter this behavior by checking post histories. Drive-by Accounts These accounts post bigoted or inflammatory comments in active threads then delete/edit their comments a day or two after the submission dies to obscure the pattern of their activity. This is hard to spot unless you check back in with your suspected trolls or seek them out by reviewing. If you catch them in the act it’s hugely indicative of subversive intent. Identify and negate this by monitoring suspected trolls for post deletion and reporting before they are deleted. Also quoting especially aggressive replies so they can’t edit it away.

Goosefetish sacrificed to the lemmygrad blood god
There was a 200+ incantations across 2 threads ([1]( https://lemmy.ml/post/417095) and [2](https://lemmy.ml/post/418487?scrollToComments=true)) in asklemmy. Historians are torn on the exact date the catrina-stalagmite rapture began, but popular consensus considers this event to be the start. The ritual began with The Pope of Banishment catr-stag crying: "Comrades! I comment for the algorithm, may more of us see this insanity and come to our aid!" This marked the first on record brigading on the Lemmyverse. Legions of catr-stag's loyal lemmygrad followers emerged from the shadows and surrounded Goose. They began chanting incantations. Goose was never seen again and his body was never found. His epitaph reads: "Friend to all You're a friend to everyone you meet. Friends and family come first to you, and you're always there to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on. Your legacy is defined by the lives you've affected." He was succeeded by a wife, 3 children and 2 ducks. A public memorial service will follow.

Beehaw defederates from lemmygrad
When did the lemmygrad defederation happen? Chris Remington mod A couple of days ago. alyaza about aug 10, mostly motivated by their lack of moderation/lack of compatibility with our values but also because we’re trying to figure out why our server is using so much more space than it should be (because if we don’t figure it out soon our hosting costs will need to double). one of the presumptions is who we federate with has something to do with it and lemmygrad was the biggest place we federated with, but we don’t really have overlap with their userbase so it doesn’t make very much sense to assume any additional load they might be adding.
