No these are not basic features, most users don’t really care about it. You don’t think Apple does research? How can Apple have such an huge market share if those things are things that people are desperate for like you act? And no, I can’t take a full camera on my backpack trips, every ounce counts. Im a huge fan of the Warcraft rts games but you are right. Especially the first Warcraft felt like an ancient game compared to the first C&C, the controls were horrific (no right clicking on resources to send peons to it lol).
