No clue. Since google only wants to give this choice to users from the eea, there is going to have to be some country verification done. The 2019 blog post spoke about presenting the choice to users after an update.
Maybe the change since March 2024 is that that choice will be given during initial setup instead of later. But that change will likely take some more time to be implemented into updates from device manufacturers, I don’t know how fast android updates follow these days.
Edit: unlike the cross section of the op, the Isley cross-section had less traffic and no stoplights, so there was nothing that forced traffic to come to a full stop before crossing, which made the oblique angles that much more dangerous.
I can only speak about my nation’s club football (the world kind, not the us one): the normal competition is open to anyone, with smaller competitions for other groups. Those smaller competitions have discriminatory rules for entry, but players that meet those criteria, can still chose to play in the normal competition if they want to. The “normal” competition has many more brackets than the smaller competitions because there’s just way more players, which also means that if you want to play vs the best, that’s where they are. It’s the same principle for all ages.
I can imagine that at one point the football competition in my country had similar “no girls allowed” rules, but when I grew up in the nineties, the football competition that I played in was already mixed.
So if I understand it correctly, it’s a boys only competition, not an open competition. And since these girls were so good, they wanted to be able to compete against the top teams, so they pulled of a superb ruse to be able to do just that, in the process upsetting some men who don’t want to compete against girls for reasons, especially if they end up losing. That’s going to make a good sport movie one day.
Many (most?) sports have a top “open” competition that anyone can enter and then several restricted competitions (age, sex, handicaps, …), but even if you qualify for one of the restricted competitions, if you’re good enough, you can still play in the open competition. Except in bible belt country apparently, no girls allowed in the top competition.
About the only thing the UK government has done right in the last few years, is getting help to Ukraine. I think the UK was even sending small weapons (shoulder fired rockets) in the first days of the full scale invasion, while most other nations were still waiting to see if Ukraine would buckle or not. And since then they were always early with other significant help: training programs, tanks, … They did well in this case I think.
I looked for an answer for my Kosovo question and it’s probably because of: “The Kosovo Digital Economy Project (KODE) was launched in 2018 with the goal of ensuring that all Kosovars have equal access to digital opportunities.”
I’m not trying to read something that isn’t there. Poverty does cause negative consequences and it will show in statistics, but here at least, poverty does not seem to be the dominant factor.
The internet adoption map mostly shows 3 correlations:
A political one along national borders. That for example Romania and Kosovo have relatively high internet adoption and Greece + Portugal don’t, is caused by government policy, not because of wealth: Greece + Portugal are still far wealthier than the other two.
A division within countries whereby the capital region has higher internet adoption rates than other regions. The capital region usually has a higher gnp per capita (not in Poland apparently though), but it also usually has more immigration of young people.
And another trend within countries, whereby regions with declining + aging populations (Fe Saarland + southern Italy + former east Germany) score lower.
But the one that clearly dominates is 1) Government policy. You can have 2 regions with similar demographics + wealth and a national border between the 2 regions, and the internet adoption rate between the 2 can be vastly different, a far bigger difference than between 2 regions within the same country.
Your attempt at discrediting my obversations as looking at trees in a forest is cute, but it’s not going to fly. You can’t claim that a forest is boreal and then if someone observes that it contains palm trees, proclaim that they’re not allowed to look at the trees.
Actually, no, I don’t think it shows that. A few examples: Your map shows that in Serbia, Kosovo and Romania there’s some of the most people at risk of poverty, but most of their regions have higher internet adoption rates than the surrounding regions. It shows southern Spain to be much worse of than Portugal, but in the internet map Portugal had much lower internet adoption. West-Poland is apparently richer than east-Poland, but one of those richer western provinces had some of the lowest internet adoption rates in Poland.
Bayern is also a good example counter example against the poverty argument. Very wealthy region, but in 2021 they apparently had lower internet adoption than most other west-german regions. Saarland could be seen as an example of the poverty argument, but also of the age argument: it’s young people that move away.
Galicia in Spain is also wealthier than average in Spain iirc, but the map also shows them as having lower internet adoption than the rest of Spain.
Lemmy.world and lemmy.ml are still federated. You might have it confused with the defederation from hexbear and lemmygrad (both autocratic loving tankies, who are also extremely obnoxious).

I looked up rule 1 if lemmy.ml: No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia. Code of Conduct.
The code of conduct is that of Lemmy org, I never read it till now and I’m very disappointed by the next part: “Remarks that moderators find inappropriate, whether listed in the code of conduct or not, are also not allowed.”. Basically total mod discretion, so by extension, “rule 1” of lemmy.ml also boils down to total mod discretion.
According to the code of conduct, there’s also supposed to be first warnings, temporary bans and the chance for repeals according to the code of conduct. Which does sound nice, but I wonder if it’s also done in practice in some Lemmy communities. It seems pretty hard to provide a system for this that is not based on happenstance. Does anyone have experience with this?
This does not surprise me one bit from r worldnews. When I last used that sub (2021? Not sure actually), mod abuse was already rampant and correcting popular blatant misinformation, would get you voted down massively, even when you provided a solid source and explanation. A truly rotten sub. Animetitties (seriously) was a far better sub for following and discussing world news. At a certain point, there will have been no active mods with any integrity left in r worldnews and I suspect that that point was years ago. The whole reddit moderation system does seem fundamentally flawed, which was especially noticeable in the default subs.
I also really appreciate about Lemmy how there can be a 2 day old thread on everything and I throw in my 2 cents and even after 2 days, that comment gets read. It really beats the endless reposts (and bots reposting top comments!) of reddit.
That it’s a picture of sawdust, that he not even took himself, makes this one funny, but even if it was a picture of an actual white powder that might have been actual cocaine, how could that picture be considered as evidence of substance abuse?
There’s bound to be loads of pictures of white powders in a line around. There’s also probably loads of people who made flour lines in the kitchen and then send a funny pose to their friends. Harmless fun, until there’s a witch hunt out for you apparently. Just having such a picture on your phone is in itself proof of nothing, there needs to be more.
