100% agree with this. When I think of emulation and mods, the first thing I think about is Nintendo. That’s how a LOT of people discover these older titles. As much as I love playing things on original hardware, the market for those devices and games have gotten absurd.
I would much rather someone emulate a nintendo game to have the chance to experience it over nothing at all. It’s not like Nintendo is losing money from players emulating games that aren’t even available anymore. It’s all about dat preservation!
Totally agree. I figured all of Rare Replay would have come to PC by now but maybe someday…
One of the best joys in Mario Kart is feeling large and in charge lol
I know the feeling! I got bored and modded my 3DS back in 2020 and have just been getting more into it since! I’ve got my 3DS, Vita, and my recent favorite is my modded WiiU.
That and the multiple retro handhelds that I own lol. I have so many games I want to get to but I keep just playing Mario Golf on them…
Hope you’re enjoying the Prime Remaster btw. It’s an incredible game
I’ve always believed that Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts deserves way more love than it got. I can understand it may have been just a the wrong time (and not what fans were hoping for with a BK revival at the time) but the core vehicle building gameplay and physics are so much fun to play around with.
I’ve beaten the game a few times over now, and each time I try to challenge myself to make wilder vehicles than before. Or sometimes avoid making a vehicle entirely and attempting to make some sort of contraption machine. The music is some incredible work from Grant Kirkhope and Robin Beanland, bringing in a more modern but still very Banjo sound to the game.
I think now with the game being nearly 15 years behind us now, if you have GamePass please do yourself a favor and give it a try with an open mind! It may not be for everyone, but the building mechanics were pretty ahead of their time for 2008! You may just find a new favorite game :)
Incredibly relatable
I hope they understand the power they gave you with that controller lol
Might look into making a general Retro Gaming instance! Don’t have a clue how to make that yet, but I would love to have a place to share game collections, experiences, and general love for older games and systems
Update: since I’m on the beehaw instance it looks like I can’t create communities as far as I’m aware…
Oh man Prodeus! I feel like it got a burst of attention right at launch but I never hear anyone mention it anymore! It pulls so many good gameplay elements from classics like Quake and Doom, bringing together an engaging and action packed experience. That and I just wish there was any players online lol
The little brother method never fails! Plus we love a good medium weight class character
Cant boost this enough, Geometric Weather is what got me into paying more attention and having fun following the weather! Been using it for a few years now and very much recommend it
Even with its age, Ocarina of Time will always be one of the absolute greats. No game on the N64 managed to hit such an incredible atmosphere like that game did! I listen to the soundtrack frequently still
Halo: Combat Evolved To this day, it was one of the most mind-blowing experiences I’ve had with a game on first play-through. The world, the characters, the MUSIC. It was such an exciting and immersive experience.
I still stand by the opinion that “The Silent Cartographer” is a perfect Halo level. It hits so perfectly with a balance of freedom within a contained environment. It showed the player that while there was a linear way to play the level, you could essentially complete it through quicker methods if you knew where to go and what to do. It even gives you different dialogue if you skip to other parts first.
It was also the level that was included with the PC Demo that I played hundreds of times. I loved that demo, replaying Silent Cartographer and playing match after match online in Blood Gulch. I think it might be time for me to play through the whole game again…
I would love to see a general Retro Gaming/Modding/etc instance on beehaw!
