This feels more like an anti-atheist meme, since it implies that we might find evidence of God in the future even if we don’t have it now. Also implies that visual proof is the only kind of evidence which just isn’t the case.

I am an atheist and would be fine if we found evidence of literally any kinda god. I am making a determination based on what I have to work with, if I have more to work with I will make a new determination.

You do have to admit, from the theist pov, it is a bit disturbing that everything you can say about God is pretty much what you could say a 100 years ago. Everything we have learned hasn’t added to that body of knowledge. Why is that?

And take that logic one step further. How much has been discovered and learned in the last century that was previously attributable to God by theists because we didn’t understand it? Doesnt the shrinking list of cosmic unknowns imply a diminish role for a god in our “organized” existence?

Colloquially known as “the god of the gaps”. If you put your faith in god’s power based on the unknowable, then god’s power continually decreases as the unknowable becomes known.

I saw that post about our view of the universe being wrong, how the expansion is a bit different than previously considered. And it got me thinking about the theory of macro and micro being pretty similar to each other. Which led me to the idea of the universe being a creature and us living on the equivalent of a proton or something within a living cell. Then i started wondering what kind of creature we were living in and whether we were a part of it or an infection. And if so, are there any white cells roaming around looking to get rid of us?

Finally, I reached the conclusion that imagination is one helluva drug and i need to get out more to keep in touch with reality.

I dislike this meme because it fails to acknowledge that Christianity (which these posts are often about) has the “you can’t test god” rule, so this is entirely expected from a believer’s pov.

I think Deuteronomy 6:16 “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.” Is not “except they did not have that rule until they repeatedly failed all their tests”.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you or maybe I am missing something, but I think you are wrong.

Skepticism, sure. Science? Not really. The precursors of science maybe, but until you have a fully-developed scientific method, it is not yet science.

You could also put a a blank panels for “love then” and “love now”.

If you can’t take a photo of love, then love doesn’t exist, right?

Yet. Can’t take a photo of a dream yet

Musk is working on that, though. Seeing all the weird shit neuralink records from people’s dreams is gonna be wild.

Wow and you think what religious people believe in is weird?

You think of Elon Musk the same way as a lot of people think about Jesus. At least Jesus didn’t tell people to “go fuck themselves”.

              I what now?

I think musk is an asshole and always have.

But, I guarantee you, people that get neuralink implants are going to have their brains monitored 24-7. Eventually, that will translate into some kind of process for reading/visualizing thoughts. (Kind of like how Amazon Alexa’s use the recordings they collect to “improve” Alexa…. And push more “customized” ads etc.)

              Because musk is an asshole.

Is it possible? Maybe, maybe not. But that doesn’t change that that’s what he’s working towards.

There are smart people working at Tesla and SpaceX and people credit Elon Musk for the work other people did. That led to people thinking he’s the real life Tony Stark and his already bloated ego got out of control.

Then whatever idea he started shitting out people thought they were going to happen any day now. Hyperloop? Any day now! Starship to Mars? Any day now! Starship for commercial air travel? Any day now! Full self driving? Any day now! Neural link? Any day now!

I think we have to learn that the ideas that Musk throws out there is mostly bullshit. Believing that because Musk said it means it will soon be a reality is dangerous when you consider people thinking that their Teslas are fully self driving (they’re not) and especially when letting him tinker with people’s brains.

It’s far more likely people will be lobotomized by neural link experiments than Elon Musk looking at people’s dreams.

                  And yet,

You act like musk (and others, yes) are not working on it.

You’re right. It’s. It guaranteed to work. And you’re right, it’s a massive risk to get one. Doesn’t change the fact that that’s what they’re working towards, and I stand by my original statement: when they start leaking the “recorded dreams”…. That shit is gonna be nuts.

To be clear: I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ve even said it myself on occasion.

Doesn’t change the fact that what musk wants from neuralink is the training data for AI. The people that actually know what they’re doing may or may not be successful, but that’s what he’s working towards.

You can’t take a photo of love, but you can take an MRI of brain function to show what the brain does in order to give you the emotion of love.

Everything that is real can at least be measured indirectly.

Since there has been so little time for DNA to develop to its current complexity, I’m pretty sure that the answer to the Fermi Paradox is that we are early, if not the first species to develop an advanced society.

I can totally see us deciding that we need to scour the galaxy/universe of all other “competition.” We’ll end up building the Halos and become The Reapers

We can make the impossible possible. It just doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye.

I can’t speak for you, but I can’t travel faster than the speed of light in a vacuum or defy the second law of thermodynamics no matter how long I try to do so.
