Right-wing, pro-capitalist media outlets like MSNBC, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone listed as “strong left” – what? This chart is a laughable propaganda piece.

Forgive the poor quality. I think .world bans the decent image sharing platforms like img.bb, so it’s highly compressed, and I’m not going to bother searching for the original because … this is so bad lol. I don’t even know where to start…

True. Charts like this are never helpful. It has the same energy as that political compass memes on reddit where people flaired as “left” would post the most blatantly Nazi adjacent comments possible.

Still, it’s baffling how any entity that upholds inherently oppressive systems like capitalism could remotely be considered leftist, but in a nation founded on the principles of white nationalism, including slavery and genocide, I guess it’s really warped our perspective. This is a nation that bars any self-reported leftist from obtaining residency or citizenship, so yeah. Things are pretty fucked.

I just try and assume that these folks have not been able to look outside of what they were born into, be it religion, cultural region, or country, to see the alternatives. You know, because doing so is dangerous to a sense of self. They might not be able to see their biases.

I believe this about people in general, but not about something like Ad Fontes Media. You don’t establish an influential company that exclusively sells pro-capitalist propaganda without knowing exactly what you’re doing.

And it’s also important to make the following distinction: Being brainwashed since birth can certainly explain why so many people defend the system, but it doesn’t excuse it. There’s no excuse for defending a system that relies on the exploitation, enslavement, imprisonment, and death of so many people. It would be misguided for me to sit in my comfortable chair and post about how it’s ok that we’re complicit in such atrocities.
