My cat did this with the wet food, so I switched her back just the dry stuff and she immediately started meowing in protest of no longer getting the food she’s been refusing to eat for two weeks lol
do you not like her? you don’t have to own a pet if you can’t manage it?
To be fair, manufacturers sometimes change ingredients/suppliers without changing the label.
Also, natural variations in ingredients are a thing.
Works the same way with kids.
Buy food: kid gobbles it down.
Buy again next week: kid gobbles it down. “You like that food?” “Yes, it’s good!”
Buy bulk pack of food 2 weeks later to save some cash and not forgetting to buy it next time. Kid has one more, then hates it. Now have multiple packages of chocofruitysugarbomb oatmeal that nobody wants to eat sitting in the cupboard until it expires.
Repeat for the next food item.
tbf don’t think a kid should be eating that much chocofruitysugarbomb oatmeal regardless of if they like it or not, that’s how someone like me who has ADHD (which gives me sensory issues and makes me super picky) gets even MORE picky and becomes addicted to sweet food. allegedly
a bowl of the average cereal is about the same value nutritionally as eating a bowl of ice cream with a pile of hay on top, certainly not something one should eat regularly
a) it’s a made up story about kids in general, not you or how you raise your kids. I don’t feed my kids junk food like that.
b) I’m surrounded by ADHD in my family. I am well aware of ADHD and many of its behavioral effects.
True for dogs, too. (sigh)
Not my dog. He would eat a shoe if I dropped one ounce of my dinner on it.
Fish oil is great for this. I get one that comes in a pump bottle. It helped with their arthritis, too.
Would you eat the same pre-packaged meal for weeks on end?
Cats are perfectly happy eating mice and lizards for their entire lives. Would you eat those?
Don’t compare their eating habits with ours.
I don’t think it’s about choice of food so much as it is variety. They can catch mice, lizards, birds, even insects in the wild, and each meal tastes different than the last. In the house, it’s often the same salty kibble all day every day. Or the same meat mush. I don’t think any creature would want that for literally their whole lives. It’s not even the same kind of bird or anything. Just a processed mass of homogenous food-flavored material.
Yeah that’s generally how I see it too. My cat gets dry from the automated machine, wet from me at night, and dried minnows as treats. She’s always stoked for the wet food and the minnows
I agree, which is why I always buy packs of 4 or 5 different tastes of cat foods. And give a different one everyday. The same dry kibble in the morning, but a different dinner every night. But we also buy different types of kibble every time.
Would you lick your own asshole in front of a room full of people?
God if only I had the flexibility 😩
Yes, but I’m autistic so whatever.
People arent cats. Cats do really well with a food source that doesnt change. (A safe and reliable food source is preferred for the survival benefits that would have provided them in their native habitat) People on the other hand tend to want variety (again for survival reasons but we do that so that we arent too dependant on one specific food)
Tell that to my cat…
I need to rotate between different brands and flavours, and still it’s mostly luck, if he likes it.
At least he isn’t really food focused, so he isn’t whining. Still a sad sight to see premium food go to waste…
…no. haha no… of course not. I’m a functional adult that can make the foods.
Me who eats frosted mini wheats with oat milk for too many of my meals
If it met human nutritional needs I’d buy 96 cans
If someone would give me a crate of MRE’s for free, preferably with heater packs that, by some dark magic, work every time (they usually only with 30% of the time or so) rather than having to heat them on the engine block of an MRAP, I’d gladly eat marinara “meatballs,” pulled beef and barbeque sauce, cheese “crackers,” “lemon”-flavored beverage powder and “coffee” for a year.
Holy constipation Batman, or are those not that bad?
Not that bad actually. I’ve only ate for 3 days straight while backpacking so I can’t vouch for long-term edibility, but I actually like some of them and the others aren’t bad. Unless it’s cold because your heater packs don’t work and there’s no MRAP available to heat it on…
“But there’s 4 different flavors!” 4 different flavors of the same slop is better, but not by much. I’m reaching that point and it’s gotten to where I legit feel bad for not cooking for my pets. I’m starting to look into seasoning options so I can at least switch things up a bit more for them. And some way to add different textures, so it’s at least mildly engaging
Absolutely.
If there was one food that would supply all my nutritional needs, didn’t need to be refrigerated and could be kept for months without going bad, that’d be a hell yeah from me.
You should know that cats periodically going through a change on their ability to taste things. Even their subjective smelling slightly (!) changes.
Nah, complete BS, made it up. They’re just assholes without cause. Like them anyways. Or maybe because of that. Yeah. The last thing.
My cat is so food motivated he eats absolutely everything. Obviously has a preference for wet food with gravy so I buy a bunch of different flavours in bulk but he’s happy to eat the same thing every day. He also loves olives, bread (wholemeal more than white, sourdough has an advantage too. Local bakery bread is where things are really at. Supermarket bread is a mixed bag, he usually ignores it because it’s crap), seeds, nuts, potato chips, lentils, hummus, yogurt, and grass.
This happened to me the year ago. If you open a bag of cat food it slowly starts loosing things. So, keep the bags small and closed and they won’t have any problem with it.
We wouldnt eat our food if it tasted like cardboard
Edit: im assuming a lot of things and this could clearly not be the case, but I’ll leave this comment here for the case someone is as stupid as me and needs to read this
It’s good to get some sealed containers and immediately empty the bag into multiple smaller airtight ones. I think oxidation is the main problem. I surmise that you could purge the containers with dry ice or something before closing it, too.
The solution is simple: get a second cat.
A cats favorite flavor is usually “someone else’s”
Jokes on you. Now you buy twice as much and neither likes it. 😂😂
This is my dog. I tried this discounted trail for food subscription, he ate that like he has been starving for days. I was fairly confident that I found THE food for him, so I started a legit subscription and to get free shipping I ordered in bulk. He did not care for that food anymore, so I had to get creative with how I can prep it.
Whelp that’s tooo fukin bad mr jingles. Looks like you eating mice until your attitude changes.
It might be going stale, my cat is always super excited for the first few meals out of a new bag.
Why you creeping on my pantry?
reminder that companies often change their cat food recipes for cost cutting methods too.
