One of the most vital things that you can have as a trans person is friends who are trans. Having this will give you greater access to local resources, support, and safety networks.

We cannot rely upon the government to help and protect us, especially in recent times, and we can’t always rely on our families, either.

It is vital that you know someone IRL who Gets It and knows you personally. Hell, even knowing someone IRL who is like you is less isolating. They don’t have to be your best friend in the world, but it’s important to keep in touch with them regardless.

Community is our greatest resource. Without each other, everything would be much, much harder. Help out your trans comrades whenever you get the chance. You don’t ever know when it’ll be you needing that help next.

If you have a trans friend you’re close to, tell them you love and appreciate them.

If you have a trans friend you’ve fallen out of touch with, make an effort to get back in touch. Invite them out for coffee. Rekindle the connection.

If you haven’t got any, hang around local LGBTQ groups and events and make friends the old-fashioned way.

If you live in an isolated area with no means to attend said events, joining a trans discord is a viable (though less preferable) option. An online friend isn’t as ideal as an IRL friend, but is better than no friend at all.

I started a discord server for trans people in my city about mid last year. It now has about 170 members. People just invite any teams people they know, and it grows.
