I don’t know why you think this is an either or situation.
We will continue to trade with both and all countries that want to buy our stuff including disgusting ones like Saudi Arabia, Israel etc.

What do you mean by coercing via trade restrictions? Can you give an example?

Wait.
Are you saying imposing sanctions is evil? That we should not trade with any nation that imposes sanctions?

the link you sent me about how evil china is said they imposed sanctions so obviously you think any nation which imposes sanctions is evil and we should stop trading with them.
Great for NZ economically. Ambivalent for everyday Kiwis and I suspect detrimental long term to our already abused whenua. Seeing great swathes of South Canterbury etc being force fed fertiliser to grow grass to grow cows to make milk to export just doesn’t seem like the ‘right’ thing to be doing. And this agreement just makes that econmically more viable for the dairy cartel.
My 2c at least :/
I know a lot of people very dislike GMOs but I think if we used them properly we could really reduce the need for water and fertilizer in the dairy and beef industries. Which would be good because we live in a capitalist world regardless if we want to or not.
Time will tell how this plays out, but overall I think this is a good thing. IMHO NZ needs to diversify its export portfolio, so to speak, and be less reliant on a single large market (i.e. China). This should lead to more economic resilience, which can only be a good thing in this fairly volatile time.
I wish it didn’t modify our copyright term. +50 to +70 years is a real shame. :(
Oh shit, does it? That’s not mentioned in the article.
