First lady Jill Biden defended her son Hunter Biden against an onslaught of attacks from Republicans in an interview that aired Thursday, saying the barrage of allegations against him has been “cruel.”

“I think what they are doing to Hunter is cruel,” the first lady said in an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski. “And I’m really proud of how Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction. You know, I love my son and it’s had — it’s hurt my grandchildren. And that’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.”

The first lady lamented the shift in rhetoric in the country when asked about the constant attacks from Republicans against the Biden family, including from former President Trump, who frequently calls President Biden “incompetent.”

“I mean, to look at it, what we used to have, and what the other side, the extremists have turned this country into. I mean, we would never see things like that, say 10 years ago,” Jill Biden said.

My tin-foil-hat theory is that the cruelty is the point, and their long term goal is to make being a Democrat president such a miserable experience that no one even remotely competent wants anything to do with the job.

According to Trump’s legal defense, Biden could have Trump and the entire Republican Congress assassinated without any repercussions. He could assassinate anyone who would vote to impeach him, and assassinate anyone who would vote for someone who would impeach him, and still be legally in the clear, as I understand it.

Fun Fact: Trump’s lawyers were arguing the exact opposite of this during his Impeachment.

Funner Fact: Despite all the nonsense going on, Donny isn’t actually going to have immunity, and he’s more than likely going to jail, or the US becomes a dictatorship this year.

or the US becomes a dictatorship this year.

You say that like it’s not a thing that can actually happen.

Oh I am well aware that there is a good chance it happens. It’s a shame it’s down to some of the most self serving people on the planet (certain members of the supreme court) if it happens or not.

All I know is that with all the Republicans have revealed about him, I am definitely not voting for Hunter Biden in 2024.

“I think what they are doing to Hunter is cruel

I mean, it is because he’s being politically targeted for who his family is…

But also, you’d hope this would make the Bidens more progressive on addiction as a whole. Doing stuff like legalizing cannabis to separate it from the black market, going after opioid manufactures and hard drug traffickers.

Lots of people in America have trouble caused by drugs. Whether it’s legal trouble or addiction.

Hunter might be targeted now because of his connections and wealth, but without them he’d also have run into trouble by now too. So it’s hard to really have sympathy.

Rich connected people complaining a family member might face consequences (even when targeted for political reasons) is pretty tone deaf.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Her interview aired a day after House Republicans voted to advance a contempt of Congress resolution against Hunter Biden, teeing up a full House vote and the potential for criminal charges for the president’s son.

The White House has repeatedly denied the president was involved in his son’s business dealings.

House Republicans have repeatedly focused on Hunter Biden’s business deals as part of the inquiry into the president.

Hunter Biden was central to GOP attacks during the 2020 election, when the Trump campaign zeroed in on the contents of an old laptop that contained graphic images of the president’s son.

Hunter Biden is also facing federal tax charges, as well as charges for lying in October 2018 on a federal form for gun purchasers when he swore at the time that he wasn’t using or addicted to illegal drugs.

The president has repeatedly said he is proud of his son and has noted Hunter Biden has been open about his struggles with addiction.
