What are your thoughts on psych drugs, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilisers, etc?

Doctors love to prescribe these drugs. But they have very bad side effects, based on what I’ve read. And they can give you strong withdrawals when you try to come off them. Also, should we really be medicalising emotions and taking drugs to emotionally cope with the world? Maybe we need things like friends, family, social connections, to make the world more enjoyable.

What do you think?

Good perspective to share, thanks. I’ve heard (or read) many times that medication has saved someone’s life. I’ve also heard some pretty negative things about Cymbalta as well, but I think most people are aware that psychiatric medication affects everyone differently.

Oh yeah, I was very nervous about starting cymbalta since it has such a bad reputation online. But if it works great for you then you’re probably spending less time talking about it, right?

I did have some minor side effects for about a week or two when I started it; I had bizarre physical sensations across my scalp and sleep disturbances as my brain adjusted. But after that settled down it hasn’t given me any issues. I’m also on a low dose, which might be helping me not experience side effects.
