Of course there are other jrpg’s beside Final Fantasy. I posted this because this award is kinda big, but i’m not really a big fan of awards. For me, Final Fantasy XVI was rather a bad game this year and i enjoyed to play a lot others. I even think FF XVI doesn’t deserve a award, give it to other games, just my opinion.

For me Fire Emblem Engage is the game of the year if you take in considereation i played that game for about 3-4 months. I even payed with Forspoken SE’s other big budget (and flop) game longer than Final Fantasy XVI. We had a western Trails and a japanese Ys release that year, but hard to consider such games for awards if they always have a japanese only release, but a lot people would agree with me that Falcom, the dev, makes some of the best jrpg’s we get.

Maybe 2024 will be more diverese with Persona 3, Like a Dragon and the Grandblue game that get release beside the big Final Fantasy Game.

My comment was more pointing out how FF is in basically every single category. Its like the people nominating only recognize the name and just nominated it automatically.

There are a lot categories it doesn’t get nominated. For example the big game of the year award or best art direction. But i agree that the name itself help the game a lot for sure.

Final Fantasy is still the biggest name in the genre other than Pokémon, which could be considered a pioneer of its own genre (perennial products in general also tend to have a tough time getting nominated for awards). Persona is starting to nip at its heels, though, and Dragon Quest also recently had its best seller ever.

Final Fantasy XVI was the first big PS5 exclusive, and the first blockbuster for a next gen system always gets attention from gaming press.
