Honestly - and it pains me to say it - I don’t think so.
Anyone who was really going to leave Reddit has probably already moved over here (or somewhere else) to start posting and building their new community, everyone who is left doesn’t care enough about what they’re doing to make the move.
I don’t think it’s going to be a mass migration, but I do think there are a lot of people that are just using Reddit until the 30th, then they’ll start looking at other options. That’s kind of what I’m doing, but I’m dipping my toes into other sites a little early.

That’s what I’m thinking too. When people’s apps shutdown, it will probably cause some migration.
If you’re right. I’m perfectly happy already with the new communities, and the conversations thus far. At this rate I feel there’s already enough to build a smaller quality community.
We will get more over the next week and month as people drop the “official” app due to various reasons of it not being good enough. By the end of July everyone will have probably moved and found their new homes on Fediverse, reddit app, tildes, or other site.
Yeah, I feel like there’s more likely to be a bigger exodus of third-party app users to the “official” Reddit app (which was itself a third-party app at one point before it was bought up) than there is to be users to Lemmy or Tildes or wherever. I think a lot of casual Reddit users just don’t care about this whole thing and they’ll just use whatever. Over time they’ll migrate (assuming content creators also move on).
Yes. I’ll use old.reddit/.compact (I think they removed that feature, I think I’ll use some chrome extension on kiwi browser to get a usable old.reddit interface) together with the official app. I already had to use the official app for chats but never really used it extensively and definitely don’t want to in the future. I’m on reddit just for a few specific subreddits and there aren’t here on Lemmy unfortunately, I’ll stay on reddit no matter what. I’ll still lurk here for communities that have alternatives on Lemmy. But the relatively small user base on Lemmy doesn’t help for an enjoyable surfing experience. Oh, I need to add, Jerboa is more buggy than official reddit app at the moment. I think I need to use the website instead
What stuff are you missing on Lemmy that’s on Reddit? I see gaps are constant being filled.
r/ApplyingToCollege and related subreddits. It’s like the whole reason I have been using reddit at all (I’m a rising senior)
I occasionally used reddit for German memes also because I’m convinced you can learn languages just by looking at memes, and I can find these on Lemmy.
I’m definitely not the average reddit migrant though so this is kind of a me problem perhaps
That will come.
There’s an entire instance for German speakers feddit.de, I believe I’ve seen memes there.
As for college, I’d imagine such subs have the most sense on country-specific instances too.
Yes I’ve been enjoying feddit.de since I came here, they’re good
I’m looking for the American college admissions, the largest college-related community on Lemmy is !college (idk how to denote channels) with 146 subscribers and even then it’s not what i’m looking for
I guess I’ll finally get in to some college in next 6 months and dump reddit finally
You know, I think what’s sorely missing is a US-centric instance. There’s one for Midwest US but not the whole country. Which is weird when so many things are country specific, and looots of countries have their own instances.
I would hope that the college comm is for all colleges and not just the US ones, but I rather doubt that’s the case.
Nah, when the third party apps shut down you’ll see another spike, then you’ll be right lmao
Are you watching that onslaught?
No? I’ve been busy with family stuff over the last day or two so I’m a bit out of the loop. What’s going on?
40% more users in one day after the API shutdown
And that kids is why you make your lemmy account before you delete your Reddit account
I didn’t have a choice, admins banned me off Reddit lol
I think if you’re a nerd you’re expected. Like, supernerd. Otherwise, nope. I think the meme highlights this point quite well.
The nerds are always the early adopters. Reddit was all techy people for a while.
Well, I am pretty nerdy but I am not an early adopter. I think I signed up 2 weeks ago and didn’t start using it until a couple days ago. This place has been around for a while. I don’t early adopt anything. I wait and see, like a stingy old nerd.
Hello there, new users
200,000 lemmings ready, and million more well on the way
And Reddit users on July 1st (hopefully)

and i am anxious to inspect these units…
We are the canaries for those coming on the 1st
Greet them with a good ole “Hello there”!
But will there be balloons and a cake?
And cookies and blowpops.
And blow and pops.
And blowjobs until you pop.
I hope some of the kinks can get worked out in the next few days. I know the lemmy devs are under a lot of stress.
Kinks, you say?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
