They all posted their thoughts and links to their articles, interviews or podcasts with them, they shared information about their new books. Twitter was like an RSS feed, where you could subscribe to authors directly. You could write them and get a reply! It was and probably still is a great tool, though Musk is taking a lot of steps to destroy it.
To be fair, the only thing I ever used it for was emergency reporting.
