Well done Amsterdam! One councillor brought a motion to do this in my city, but it was disappointingly called “socialist” by the far-right party with a massive 20/27 seats, and voted down.
The speed limit will apply to cyclists too, right? Right?
I believe the limit was already set to 30 for bikes for a few years now.
Nevertheless, if it goes on the road (and not on the bike paths), it’s subject to moped laws, and therefore should follow the upcoming limit of 30.
Bicycles don’t have a speed limit in the Netherlands. Only electric bikes can’t give any power any more above 25 km/h(but they are easily modified).
I hate it cycling and driving a car that some bikes go to fast in the city. (Mostly modified e-bikes and the classic sports cyclists) It’s really hard to calculate there speed and just gives dangerous situations. For some reason they don’t have the ability to give directions with there hands also.
That is true, but most people without e-bikes don’t reach 30+km/h in a burst, unless they’re on a road bike specifically designed to accelerate quickly. However, there are strict speed limit laws for e-bikes, not only that they can’t power above 25 km/h. Them not being enforced by the police is another thing in itself 😅
Forgive my ignorance, as someone who lives in cities where speed limits are regularly over 110kph, is 30 kph not painful slow?
It’s been the speed limit in Dublin city centre now for some time. The logic is that collisions with humans are rarely fatal at that speed. Tbh it is slow but you’re not exactly going fast within the city limits in old European cities anyway.
Outside the city it’s normal speed limits here. 50 in towns. 80 most places. 120 on the motorway.
Edit: that’s 30 / 50 / 75 in mph
Ah make sense. Thank you
