Obviously this is a long shot but is there any way to get game pass working on Linux? I realise most of the games can be played through steam but it is a good way to try out new games cheaply
There is a Microsoft Approved way of getting Xbox Cloud Gaming to work on Steam Deck. I haven’t tried doing it on Linux proper, but it would be weird if they didn’t allow it.
As a non-user of Gamepass, I don’t know if this is acceptable or not, but it’s the only thing I am aware of.
I’m actually talking about just the game library part not the streaming service, the one that lets you download and run them on your own hardware. It’s looking like streaming is the option I’ll need to go for for this though
Sadly, I think it is not possible. Game Pass games have Microsoft DRM, and completely break the compatibility with wine/proton.
No work around at the moment. :-\
Unless I missed something recently, I think not (unless maybe a W10 VM works for you?). With CPU-bundled AMD gamepass I know many people had a reason to be interested, such as myself who had the bundle in 2019 and never redeemed it because of the lack of support.
I think at one point I may have read something about dual-boot (again, a big maybe), assuming the game you want is not UWP and you’re willing to install it in Windows and move it.
Also when searching that, I did see someone mention streaming from W10 to Linux, so that may be a (not-ideal) option.
I’m happy to run a VM if the performance is ok, problem is then I’ve gotta figure out GPU virtualization/passthrough which I believe is possible with my GPU. It’s either that or I use their streaming service
Dual booting is a last resort, I switched to Linux for a reason, I’ve got used to it now and am unwilling to switch back on bare metal.
VFIO machine will real gpu works as expected - perfect. Native options are years away if any - nobody seems to work in cracking uwp to get running under wine… and honestly I’m not surprised.
No. A lot of the stuff GamePass uses on Windows, like UWP, haven’t been reverse engineered yet. And it doesn’t seem like there’s much interest to do so, outside of the occasional GamePass subscriber that wants to use Linux like yourself. Cloud Streaming with GamePass Ultimate is your only real option currently. And at best you can maybe hope that Microsoft will partner with Steam in the future to integrate it there in some way, similar to EA Play.
As long as your web browser can access udev for the controller, just go to Xbox.com/play or something like that. I’m away from my desktop, but I think that’s the address. I’ve done it a few times now.
