Sometimes people say something lovely that really sticks with us. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever got?

Idk if it counts but an ex once told me I was very well proportioned (physically, as in my body proportions).

Even though it’s not something I have any control over, it’s stuck with me all these years. It was so earnestly said, not pandering or gushing, or with any ulterior motive, just an observation stated with the intent to compliment.

my therapist once said I was her most challenging patient 😝 (even better, a manager once told me I was his most challenging employee)

but honestly I can’t even remember many compliments - I think I must dissociate or actively suppress when people compliment me, I don’t handle it well.

I do remember a teacher once said, “I wish we could clone you.” She wished more of her students were like me. (I had an unhealthy habit of treating my studies as a form of escapism, and I was otherwise quiet, polite, and a rule-follower.)

There was a manager who gave me a little lapel pin of a gold star; she didn’t do that kind of thing for other employees. She also would call me when she was drunk and out fishing, so who knows what all was going on there. 😉

So, I know this is weird, but… About a year ago, we had to call an exterminator (we had bacon beetles in our new apartment). He saw my tupperware storage of everything that’s not in the fridge and not in a sealed container from the supermarket and in awe called me a role model. Best compliment I ever got. It was so reassuring. I am still so proud.

I’m very scared of insects, especially their, uhm, “long children”, so I have been very thorough with boxing everything in sealed containers for a long time. You won’t find a loose noodle or a bag of flour in my apartment. I’m not the tidiest or cleanest person, but I am not feeding potential tiny roommates.

My boss telling me “you are very formidable” was a glowing feel for sure. 😄
